Love the thread on the MOB dresses. I have 2 weddings to attend this summer. Now can we talk shoes?

I wear gym shoes for everyday tasks. I wear plain flats for my business casual work attire, which is usually slacks.

I have foot/leg problems that will not allow me to wear anything over a half inch or a one inch heal. I also have plantar fasciitis and need to wear cushioning in the shoes. And worst of all, I am short (5’3") and about 15 pounds overweight!

I think I will probably wear a simple sheath type dress or some of the more casual styles of dresses shown in the MOB thread. Any ideas on shoes that won’t make me look dowdy, lumpy, chopped up? I am so used to buying shoes for utility and comfort, I don’t know what to look for.

How about a flat in a neutral color so that they can be worn again? Depending on the type of wedding you are going to, the flats could be dressed up a bit with a bow or buckle of some sort, or just plain.

I had plantar fasciitis and so am surprised to hear you wear flats. Those and flip flops are terrible for people with PF.

I am also short (5’1") and flats or low heel with nice dress makes me look dumpy so I have never stopped wearing high heels - I just don’t wear them often.

If it was me I’d wear a shoe with a fairly high heel and just take them off when they start hurting. I’d also bring a pair of ballet flats to wear when dancing.

Also, a high heeled shoe with a platform is the most comfortable, imo.

I am afraid to wear flip flop style sandals…afraid I will fall out of them! I have broken my leg twice and want something that feels securely attached to my feet. But even with a strappy sandal, it would need to have a cushion bottom. I don’t know how those gel inserts would look in a sandal.

I would love to have a little heal like those Munro pumps. I guess I will need to try them on to see if I can walk.

A neutral (beige) color flat might work. I guess I was just thinking about my usual black flats which really look horrible with a skirt. Colored skirt - short plump pale leg below - black flat below that…UGGGGG!

My big toes don’t bend up that much. Surgery issues. I literally cannot wear heels higher than an inch because my toes-feet won’t bend to get them on. I kind of roll on the side of my foot when I walk.

“Oooh! I want those! But do people really spend 650 dollars on a pair of shoes?!!!”

Yes, and more. I don’t, but I have several pairs of Stuart Weitzman’s which are equally as lovely but generally less expensive then Choo’s, CL’s and MB’s.

As a 5’ 1" artist, I know it’s true that nude shoes make you look taller. So does wearing a dress, hose and shoes that are in the same color family. The idea is to NOT interrupt the form with breaks in the color.

If you have a Nordstroms near you, I would recommend starting there first. They have an excellent shoe selection. You are probably just going to have to try on many, many shoes until you find something that is comfortable yet attractive. You don’t want to end up with a shoe that is cute, but you can’t walk or stand in them at the wedding.

EPTR,

“But do people really spend 650 dollars on a pair of shoes?!!!”

Apparently, some women do. I tell my husband how lucky he is that I don’t spend tons of $$$ on clothes, shoes and purses. I use the same Michael Kors purse that I bought on sale for 40% off 3 years ago. I’ve only purchased 2 pairs of shoes in the past 12 months. I know, I’m weird! I live in flip flops and sandals during the warm weather. During the winter, I wear walking shoes or black Merrells.

Since I don’t work, I never wear heels. As a result, I can’t tolerate a heel over two inches high. I believe that if you wear heels on a regular basis, your feet get used to them.

Anything with an ankle strap is also a big no-no.

Hey, I can use this thread too! i also am on the short side (5’4) and can’t really wear heels (also hate them.) But these shoe prices are eye-opening! I’ll have to look at the suggesti0ns and then head to Payless!
