Shopping for new dishwasher...ugh

A hole? Wow, that’s new.

I am still OK with the Miele which is now 9 years old. It decided of a sudden to display F13, but a quick off/on/restart cleared out that nonsense. I can fit a bunch of large plates and bowls in it just fine. Of course, it is 9 years old now, and I have no idea if they still make 'em like they used to.

We bought a Maytag last year. No particular reason other than we needed a new one and it was in stock , so we could drive off with it and it matched my other appliances
It has a quick cycle , which I like and my dishes are clean.
I have relatively low expectations out of my appliances.
They need to do their job.
I don’t expect much in terms of longevity because I don’t think they are built to last

I am still a bosch fan. It cleans really well. Very quite. You can’t hear it running at all.

I have a similar KitchenAid but mine doesn’t have the third rack–it looked more like a pain than a help. Very quiet and cleans great. One of the reasons I got KA was it seemed easier to load dishes in–can get a lot in there!

@mathmom hoping that’s a typo and it worked longer than ONE year!

We got mostly new appliances a few years ago. Not loving the fridge or,the stove…but do love the Bosch dishwasher.

Yes a typo. 17 years. I loved that dishwasher. It was a Kenmore, but I am so mad at the Sears repair guys now, I won’t buy a new one from them. (They made me wait all day, delaying twice then cancelled the appointment all together and rescheduled for a week and half later.) So we figured out what was wrong with it and don’t think it’s an easy repair. I think it probably got punctured and then wore out along the weak spot. Probably leaked for a while under the DW before we noticed.

In the 20 years we have lived in our current house, we have had 3 Bosch dishwashers, which may not seem great, but one of them died because the pump burned out and took some wiring with it, because the water outlet was fed through a crawl space to feed into the kitchen drain, which froze in cold weather (the contractor hired day laborers, and it showed, they went out of their way to run a cold water line to the dishwasher when there was a hot water line right there, and there is a drain pipe that if they fed the dishwasher into it, would never have frozen, again right there).

The first one we replaced after 10 years because that model had exposed heating coils and we have very hard water, the new unit that is now about 7 years old has them covered so that isn’t an issue.

The Bosch is very quiet, it uses less water and soap than typical contemporary models. We have very hard water which makes its job that much more difficult, and it still cleans well despite the hard water. The one we bought was about the same price as the mid-priced line from Sears and Kitchenaid, and to us was built better.

Miele has a delayed start. I have one at home and 2 at vacation place. Two are going on 15 years and the other is 19. I have had trouble with one machine (other two are just fine) and will probably replace it with another Miele… Quiet operation is important to H and Miele is really quiet. Also like that there’s a drawer on top for silverware–easy to load and unload.

We bought a Bosch last year and I love it. It was at the lower end of what they offer, but it works great. When we first used it we had to stare at it and listen for water to tell if it was on. It is so much quieter than our last dishwasher - a whirlpool that was 13 years old.

My Bosch has a little red light that shines on the floor when it is running. Otherwise, we would have no idea it was on! Very quiet.

Love my Miele and the third rack for silverware. Quiet as can be.

Salesman recommended both the KA and the Bosch. Given reviews here and on KW, I chose the Bosch. Same price. I didn’t care about hot air drying, as I run the DW 1x a week. I’m very happy with Bosch 800 series.

Another new Bosch here. Without the red light we can sit in the same room and not know it is on. It does have a long cycle but it uses less water anyhow. And everything comes out cleaner than it ever did in our old one. Even old coffee and tea stains. Stuck food comes right off. Can you tell we love it?

Love my very old Bosch. Afraid to say it in fear that I will jinx it. SO quiet!

Another Bosch lover here. I think I bought it because of this thread - back in the day.

The angled tines on Bosch dishwashers are terrible for loading the many bowls we use. I even took dishes to the appliance store to figure things out. That was a deal killer for me- useless if you can’t load in the usual few days worth of dishes like in the Kenmore or Kitchen Aid.

That worries me about the Bosch. I loved the layout of the Kenmore. We fill up the dishwasher before we run it, and that’s generally every day.

For bowls, I fold down the tines. I collect dirty dishes for a few days until it’s full. I don’t have problem doing that with a bosch but my dishes are simple.

Thanks everyone. I went to a store on my way home from a job. There was a Bosch that was reduced because it had been returned (not defective in any way, just didn’t fit an ADA slot) - so I snapped it up. I might regret not having the full slide out cutlery tray, but it was a good deal. I think the bowls we use will be okay.

I’ve had two Bosch dishwashers that were very quiet and good looking, but neither lasted more than five or six years…and did just an average job washing the dishes. I replaced last year with a Miele - even quieter and does a significantly better job cleaning. I never put stemware in the Bosch because of breakage, but no problem with the Miele. We have filtered water for the house, but the dishwasher comes with a built-in softener (a reservoir for adding salt), and I love the top cutlery tray. I also use Miele dishwasher tabs which probably make a difference…zero spots on stemware.
