Shopping for new dishwasher...ugh

My Miele is 16 years old and still going strong with zero problem.

I also wish to mention my 23 years old Maytag washer just had a leaky nozzle(only problem for 23 years). It happened on a Friday night and I called several repair technicians on Saturday hoping someone may be working. All eventually returned my calls and told me if any part goes wrong, try to replace it if it’s still available because all the new machines are built to last less than 10 years. My 23 years old Maytag dryer has not needed a single repair.

When I redid my kitchen I really couldn’t justify spending money on a new dishwasher. But I was pretty sure that at 15 years my Kenmore’s days were numbered. It’s possible all the moving it had to do during the renovation process contributed to its demise, even if it lasted another couple of years.

The Bosch is incredibly quiet - with the TV on in an adjacent room we never did hear it turn on having delayed it an hour to make sure the delay worked.

This is totally Hit or Miss, not much depends on the $$ that you spent. …btw Bosch is NOT the most quiet out there. We compared the decibels when we were buying ours, and Bosch did not measure up to others. This was our #1 criteria as we knew thru our experience that we simply had to get lucky with reliability, it is unpredictable… I wish you luck,

Oh please, my 800’series Bosch is the quietist of any DW I’ve ever owned. The kitchen aid would be comparable, I’m sure. The Miele was far more expensive, and didn’t make sense for a homeowner of 1. It has great reviews.

I must agree, my dog’s ears can’t even hear the Bosch. It makes no noise! Now if only I could find a washing machine that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, break 2 years in, and is as quiet as my dishwasher.

I actually didn’t care that much about quiet. The Bosch is plenty quiet for me.

@MiamiDAP since you found a far superior dishwasher…why not share what you bought…? The rest of us have shared.

I have a Bosch. My living room is right next to the kitchen (10 ft) and I couldn’t hear a thing when the dishwasher is running.

We had a Kenmore that had specs similar to a Bosch. We were never happy with the noise level. Now we have a Bosch. Happy campers now.

Wait wait wait, Do dishwashers REALLY WORK?! I have never used or had one of those in my life, my mother also says that they consume too much water and that do not clean very well.

Ours uses less water than hand washing for the quantity of dishes washed and gets things much cleaner. Of course you defeat the less water if you rinse the dishes first. I am just getting DH to quit rinsing the dishes down to nothing. The new Bosch cleans everything including stuck on food.

@Mrduque your mother is wrong. It takes more water to wash dishes by hand than the current dishwashers use to do a whole load. Never mind that the dishes get really clean!

My son doesn’t have a dishwasher…and it’s fine because it’s only him. But for a family or,even a couple…you definitely will consume more water washing and rinsing dishes by hand.

I wish I had 2 dish washers, one for clean dishes and one for dirty ones. I would never have to unload a dishwasher.

Oldfort, I know someone who does have this design - 2 dishwashers, one set of dishes.

@oldfort - I like that plan.

I replaced my Kitchen Aid with a Bosch several years ago and have been pleased. Only thing I don’t like about the Bosch is the rack design. When I move, I intend to get another Bosch (unless I can convince H to get a Miele). I’ve also decided it’s a good time to get a new set of dishes - with bowls that fit better in the dishwasher.

I have 2 dishwashers. Emptying the dishwasher is my least favorite household chore. I am on my 2nd set of Bosch dishwashers. They are very quiet and I don’t even know they are on. I think the first set cleaned better and I regret that I didn’t just replace the racks. The motors worked fine but the racks were full of broken tines and the replacement cost of the racks was costly. My H felt better just buying new dishwashers versus the replacement racks for dishwashers that were 12 years old.

My newish place has a Bosch dishwasher and I haven’t quite figured out how to load the upper shelf with those fold- down tines. It’s definitely quiet though!

I am staying in an upscale condo with Bosch appliances. This is our fifth time here - every time, we get a different unit in the same complex, and every time the story repeats. The dishwasher did not wash a blasted thing - again! The fridge and the washer/dryer are fine. (I actually like the fridges here - best side by side I’ve seen).

That said, the dishwasher is probably 6 years old, so as a great philosopher said, you can’t buy the same dishwasher twice.

^^ I wonder if the ooey gooey gunk needs to be cleaned out of the filter as mentioned up thread. I’m sure there aren’t many rental guests standing in line to take care of that task.

BB, interesting that you have a bad experience with a bosch repeatedly. We’ve had a GE, a KitchenAid, and two Bosches. With a bosch, the dishes come out clean overtime. I don’t rinse and the stuff is often stuck on the dishes since I collect dishes for a few days before running. It is so quiet the only thing I hear is the water gurgling noise when draining.
