Short sleeve Tee...V-neck or rounded..which do you prefer?

I normally wear tank tops in the summer, but will be traveling and want to take a white short sleeve T-Shirt, and try to dress it up with a necklace or scarf. Will try to find a quick drying lightweight one and have been looking. I don’t know whether to buy the rounded neck or V-Neck…so thought it would be a fun little survey to see what everyone prefers when they purchase.

I prefer the round neck t-shirts.

I much prefer V-neck to rounded, but best of all is ballet/boatneck.

V-neck all the way for me, otherwise, my perfectly round head and face will make me look like a snowman.

Jokes aside, it makes sense to match your dressed and tops neckline with your face shape:

@bunsenburner…I have NEVER heard of that! My tanks have always been rounded, but fairly lower cut, so a necklace still laid on my skin. The rounded Tee’s with short sleeves are cut higher…so not much chest showing. I didn’t know if necklaces would look ok laying on the shirt itself.

My wife, like many women, is a v-neck girl. Buys a lot from Chico’s, J.Jill.

Like most men, I’m a crew neck guy.

@oneofthosemoms - My problem with ballet/boatneck is trying to get bra straps not to show/pop out. How do you manage that?

I go for rounded neck myself.

@doschicos, buying ballet necks in petite sizes makes a world of difference for me, otherwise I have the same problem.

Mostly round. But must have a bit of a scoop. Can’t stand typical tshirt necks.

Are you wearing a blazer or something over the shirt? For me, that makes a difference.

But I hate those boatneck tops.

No, I"m not wearing a blazer. It will be summer, and I just want a staple to wear during the day, but to make it a little snazzier with a necklace or scarf if it’s not too hot.

I love boatnecks but won’t buy them, because of the bra issue.

My favorite tanks in the world are Tencel V-necks from Tianello. They’re pricey but I wear them constantly so worth it to me. I wear my necklaces on a 22-24" chain so they fall just below the V on the shirt.

I like scoop neck. I have a shortish neck ( even though I am related to Audrey Hepburn!!!), and a roundish face, as well as noticeable boobs. I need my collarbone to show to be flattering.
I will wear crew neck, but don’t like vneck for some reason.
I do like bateau and square necks.
I like Bodens tees. They have a good selection of scoop necks.
I don’t generally like synthetic knit tees for traveling, cause they can be stinky and just don’t look as nice. But I do have shirt style tops that are synthetic, that look more like silk or cotton.
For tank tops I have gotten packs of them at costco, but I also like ones not so close to the body, like Eileen Fisher.

I also like my collarbone to show for some reason. I have a long neck, an oval face that is rounder (if that makes sense). I think my tanks are what you are calling a scoop neck, where it’s easy to lay a necklace. OK…have to ask, how are you related to Audry Hepburn?

V-neck all the way for me!

I travel a lot for work, and have 3/4 sleeve Ts with a V-neck that I always pack on my trips, one in black and one in white, to pair with my work-logo button down dress shirts, and to wear by themselves. Mine are inexpensive, the St. John’s Bay brand from JC Penney. I recently purchased a raincoat from TravelSmith, which I love, and noticed they have some similar Ts with a rounded neck that get rave reviews. Am thinking about trying them out.

Add me to the list of people who look better if my collar bone is exposed.

  1. V
  2. boat
  3. scoop Never: crew

Those Travelsmith are adorable. I think that is the neck that I want. I just need to find them in a short sleeve…I’ll have to look at travelsmith. I like the length, too.

how are you related to Audry Hepburn?

Audrey Hepburns mother, was a Dutch baroness, and my family has a ton of Dutch ancestors, although mostly pretty far back. Ancestry, which my LDS sister works on, has a feature that links you to famous or infamous relatives, and then shows the connection. Quite a few creative types. Actors and artists and outlaws. ( also Johanes Vermeer, but obviously, pretty far back)

But I don’t look anything like Ms Hepburn, even though I have had a pixie cut. although, I guess my face shape is kind of similar. But without her gorgeous neck, not the same.

I also wanted to mention besides face shape & neck length, consider shoulders. I have narrow shoulders, so a bateau neck makes them look wider, but if you already had broad shoulders, you probably would want a more vertical neckline.
