Should ATDP classes be reported on CSU app for Cal Poly SLO?

I’ll try to explain the question as clearly as I can, sorry if it’s a little complicated:

Background: D26 took 3 A-G approved courses through ATDP over the summers during HS. (She received good grades in these courses.)

Technically, these are not HS credit-bearing classes unless the HS puts them on its transcript; however, both UC and CSU allow ATDP classes with A-G approval to be reported as HS classes in the application and added to A-G matching (see this page, specifically under “Applying to California State University (CSU)”:

My questions are:

  • I don’t think it’s required to report these on the CSU app as HS classes, since they aren’t technically HS credit?
  • I think the main impact of reporting these additional classes would be to decrease the CPSLO capped weighted GPA?
  • I know UC takes the total number of A-G classes into consideration in its holistic review, but I believe that CPSLO does not?

I have the feeling it’s probably more favorable for D not to report these classes… and it seems like it’s not required to report them… but would like input on this, if anyone has thoughts! Thank you!

Edited to add: These particular classes count as D (science) and G (elective), and D26 is already maxed out on science with 5 years of lab science in HS, so I don’t think there would be a benefit in the A-G matching part of the CSU app, either.

Just bumping this up, as I’d love to get some advice before my D needs to submit the CSU app

Without ATDP courses:

  • CPSLO GPA (weighted capped 9-11): 4.18
  • Total years A-G courses: 29 (with 5 years lab science)

With ATDP courses reported on the application:

  • CPSLO GPA: 4.14
  • Total years A-G courses: 32 (with 7 years lab science)

She is applying for biomedical engineering.

Have you contacted SLO admissions and asked them about the ATDP classes?

No, I am just going from the ATDP instructions about how to enter these classes into the CSU application.

What would I (or my daughter) ask SLO admissions?

(It would feel strange to ask them “which is more advantageous”!)

I would probably ask if they recommend reporting the ATDP classes on the CSU application and how they handle these courses during the application review?
