should i apply for UVA? (rising senior)

<p>hi
i am a hong kong immigrant and started as a freshmen in high school (Fairfax County, VA). Also, i went to Singapore alone for grades 5 to 9, living in my friend’s house. Considering my school performance and studying abroad experiences, do you think i will have a chance getting into UVA? i choose UVA because of the accessUVA grant, which i really need because of my family earning)</p>

<p>SAT - i will be taking it in October. i think i can at least get a 1200</p>

<p>SAT subject - chem (780), us history (760), do you think i should take Math II? i saw many applicant took Math II</p>

<p>AP course - i took 2 in my junior year (chem (5), us hist (4)), and will take 4 in my senior year (bio, calcalus BC, us gov., enviormental)</p>

<p>EC - math honor society, national honor society, robotics, kendo</p>

<p>jobs - had been a cooking demo, kmart associate, and now i do business on ebay (last month i earn $1600)</p>

<p>GPA - fairfax county have tough scale >93 is a A, +0.5 for AP, none for honor freshman year-all regular class (4.0)
sophmore - 5 regular, 2 honor (3.93)
junior - 2 regular, 2 honor, 2 AP (unweight - 4.0)
senior - 2 regular, 4 honor (i think i can get a unweight GPA of 4.0)</p>

<p>thing that worried me is my writing skill, i am not too good in writing essay. </p>

<p>I’m sorry to be blunt, but you will have to put a lot of hard work into improving your writing and English. If you are strong at Mathematics, for sure take the Math II. Other than that, looks pretty good. Try and boost that SAT score! Best of luck!</p>

<p>Ooh, I studied in Singapore around the same ages as you did, only you’re one year younger. What was your PSLE score? (Purely out of curiosity.)</p>

<p>Honestly I would think that the fact you moved from Hong Kong freshmen year they would not weight your english reading and writing skills the same as someone who is from America. But definitely write about your experiences in Singapore that is pretty awesome. As long as you explain your circumstances I’d say you have a pretty good shot. </p>

<p>i got some more question…i am vacillated between applying to school of science and art and school of commence. I used to think that i am interested in science but just found out that i may prefer business more. Since i have to write an essay on the school i choose, i think i will have more things to write about commence (ebay) than about sciences (only the AP course). i am trying to ask how the decision of the school affects the course you will take in freshmen and sophmore year? Can you take any courses in the first two years or are you restricted to courses related to that school you chosen? DO you start your major in the third year?
