Should I ask the auditors how they are?

I always imagined that when I enter a room, it will be all empty except 3-4 auditors sitting on a line with a table.
When I enter, should I say, “How are you guys?” or is it unprofessional? I just can’t seem to decide what I’m going to say to them excluding the audition! I am very friendly smiley and talkative but I don’t want to seem childish!

Actually the quesion should be, how to act in the room generally… I mean should I shake hands with all the auditors?

I’m not an acting mom so I don’t know much about the audition process but my D went to several portfolio showings and I would answer your questions this way. Let the auditors set the tone. Wait to see if they ask your name and extend a hand. If they leave it to you, then introduce yourself and ask what they would like to see first. Don’t forget to thank them at the end–even if you don’t think it went well.

A bit of restraint is usually considered more professional but you will do best if you just act like you. You will never lose points for friendliness.

This isnt something to worry about too much. Every single room will be very different, and while some of my auditors barely looked at me, a few hugged me when I left. Every person is different, so just give them what they are willing to recieve. Generally, the fewer people in the room, the more likely the handshake and small talk.

If the vibe you get is all business, give them all business. If its chatty, talk 'em up and give them a reason to remember you. Most of all though, be yourself. Trust me, they can read you like a book, so there is no need for a facade.

Best of luck!
