Should I bother applying?

I would love to go to NYU, but I feel that my chances at admission are really unrealistic. If I do end up applying, NYU would by far be my biggest reach. I know that most people say that you should always take a shot or you may regret it, but do I have a reasonable enough chance of admission that I should shell out the cash to apply?

My Stats are:

Ethnicity: Indian (of the South Asian variety, not Native American)

High School: Above average public school, usually a handful of students get into top-tier schools every year.

Location: NH

Also, I have some credits from a local community college.

If any part needs clarification, don’t hesitate to ask! Thanks!

If you are considering to apply for CAS or any other NYU undergrad colleges except Stern, then you should definitely try. However, for Stern, your SAT should be higher. Your overall is good… Good Luck!! :)

If you never apply or reach for your goal you may never know what you could have acheived. Oftentimes, we loose when we postpone our decision. Always, remember if you never try you’ll never know and what’s good for one dosen’t mean it’s good for all.

Go ahead and apply! Your stats are actually a match - you’ll see many kids on CC that have gotten accepted with similar stats. Good luck!!

One thing is guaranteed. If you don’t apply you won’t get in. :)

So try it out.

I know I know, but I just want to know if I’m out of my mind applying with my stats. It’s says on naviance that 1980 is the lowest sat score anyone from my schools gotten into nyu with, and the average is like 2080. Match that with my weak ec’s and I kinda feel like I’d be wasting money if I bothered to apply. Can I get some solid chances please?

please please please can i get some chances?

um I’m applying and ALL of my stats are lower than yours! so don’t worry. I actually think you’re a realistic candidate and that you’ll probably get in. just apply! it won’t hurt

good luck! I hope we both get in! (but you have a higher chance!)

thanks, i needed that! good luck to you too!

You actually stand a pretty good chance of getting it. Just make sure your essays are strong - especially on the supplement (as it can be difficult to give good reasoning with the limited space NYU provides.)

I have the same EXACT SAT scores as you.

First time: 1820
Second Time: 1890

But my Superscore is still an 1890.

I’m going to send them just my 1890 SAT, since NYU allows score choice, though.

Also my GPA is 3.9.

I’m applying :D

yeah the essays are really just a paragraph long each. i dont know if this is asking for too much, but could i get a very rough estimate percent wise on my chances?

bumpity bump bump

I don’t know about any percentages, but I can say that without even looking at your stats that the answer is yes. Always go for it. You’ll never know if you don’t.

That said, after looking at your stats, all of mine were significantly lower than yours and I got in ED this month. Then again, it was Tisch, so numbers matter a little less, but they didn’t find me so horrific that they couldn’t bear the sight of my transcript.

so what do u think my chances are for college of arts and sciences?

Extra extra read all about it!
December scores are in!!!
Forget the other scores!

December 2010: 2000 (CR: 670 M: 670 W: 660)
(CR+M: 1340)

Updated chances anyone???

My latest superscore is 2040. I’m gonna apply but, money may be a problem even if accepted.
$2.5 billion endowment but, it seems they want to keep it.

Yes this is indeed true. I’ve heard they’re quite stingy with aid

I have similar stats and I’m applying to Steinhardt. I would go for it. Good luck with NYU! Oh and good luck with Northeastern too, I saw your post over there :)

Northeastern? Not me, maybe Boston U
