I am currently a Sophomore at a CCC and I was recently accepted to ASU as a Biological Science (BS) major with a 2.6 gpa. (I know my GPA is low, but I had been dealing with depression and family issues these past two years and it had a huge impact on my school work and job). I applied to state schools in Cali but I was denied due to the fact that I was an accounting/econ major and my GPA did not meet the cut for admission to this specific major. I decided to change my major to bio not too long ago when I realized that accounting isn’t for me. It’s not that i’m am not capable of doing it, it’s that I don’t enjoy doing it one bit. It bores me to death! Anyway, I’ve always wanted to be in the medical field but ever since graduating high school I was more concerned about graduating college at a young age with a solid degree (that’s why I ended up in accounting). Now that i’m a little older, 21, and not concerned with that as much, i’ve decided to pursue an undergrad degree in bio and head to Physical Therapy or Optometry for grad school. My question is, does it matter if I get my bio degree at ASU or anywhere else for that matter? I want to get into a good PT or Optometry school, preferably in Miami or Cali, but I don’t want ASU’s reputation to lower my chances of that. I’m a good student and I know i’m very capable of receiving a good GPA but I don’t want to put in all this work, time and money at ASU to graduate from there and be left in a S*** hole. My other option is to stay at CCC for another two years and transfer to a university in Cali. I’ve done a lot of research on ASU and i’ve come across a lot of people that bash on the school saying it was a waste of time and money and it worries me because with the path that I have chosen, I will be in school for another 6-8 years and I don’t have the time or money to make a mistake like that. If anyone could give me some feedback or advice that would be great! Thanks for your time.

I’m not trying to be mean, but ASU’s reputation won’t ruin your chances, your 2.6 GPA will. ASU is absolutely what you make of it. A good GPA from ASU will get you the same places a good GPA from another school will, it’s just up to you to get yourself there.

Yeah I know my GPA is really low but i’m going to put in work to change that. Thanks for the reply!

I think it is a great idea. Especially because of the WUE (you can get a tuition reduction in some cases). Despite what people may think, it is a great school academically. The West campus has great faculty and smaller classes.
