Seeing that the deadline is really near, I would appreciate any input.
My dad is reluctant to pay unless I have more than 50% chance, so if you could give percentages that would awesome.

Yeah, you gotta know you have a good chance. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you know it but need to convince Dad. Make sure he knows that 30% of UVA is OOS, as opposed to UT which is less than 10%, so it is not as much of a crap shoot.

Also, how do you wind up ranked 22nd when you have a perfect 4.0 UW? I suppose they rank by weighted? Even so, are there 21 kids with more APs than you?

Nick Mc. Sorry, I changed my phrasing in the last paragraph.
I need to know if I have more than a 50% chance. Because UVa is a “public ivy” the admissions for OOS is incredibly difficult and since I live in Texas I know absolutely zero current OOS students. So I am asking people who might have a better idea.

HartinGA. Unfortunately my school does rank by weighted GPA and sports aren’t weighted, but band is. So everyone above me has never played a sport and is in either band or orchestra.

And yes, this chance is specifically for my father. I need to convince him that he isn’t wasting his money.

Well, your SATs are above the school average, and probably above the OOS average also. A 4.0 is a 4.0, and as you have backed up those grades with high AP scores, I have to assume that your school is not soft on grades. I think your chances are WELL over 50%. My S sends many OOS to UVA each year, and your stats are better than most of theirs. I hope you applied.

I threatened to use my own money to pay the application fee and he said that was ridiculous. He said that if I was willing to pay with my own money then he’d pay for it because of my “dedication”. I also showed him some of the responses here and he coughed up the credit card. Thanks guys.

Good luck! In any case, UVa should be a match for you. There is one thing I have a problem with however.

you can’t place all of the blame on your teacher. The calc bc teacher (in the singular) in our school is ridiculous in the bad sense. She’s been teaching the class for a while but she admits she’s not good at math. If you knew she was a bad teacher, then you should have taken the initiative to buy a prep book and see what you could learn from it. A friend of mine picked up an AP calc book halfway through his precalc class, read it through, and got a 5 on the BC test. (true, I swear.) In college, no one’s going to care if you had a bad professor or if you didn’t know the format of the test. Hell, some teachers tell you one thing and do another. Just keep that in mind for the future. Other than that, your stats are impressive and weighting band/orchestra is the most ridiculous idea I’ve heard of.
