So basically, starting from this year (currently a junior), I started getting AP workload, as well as little desire to continue pursuing music. I’ve been in my school’s guitar ensemble for all three years of high school and became a part of Show Band this year, with an opportunity to continue it senior year. Frankly, I don’t enjoy and really hate having to spend so much time preparing and engaging in these activities, but these are some issues that keep me from quitting.
First off, this is the only sphere into which I got deeply involved with, all my other XCs being mostly broad and insignificant. I put in 6 hours/week for planned Show Band rehearsals and I think that would look very compelling on my resume once I apply to college. Guitar Ensemble is just a two period class in my school, but it’s also annoying to keep taking it, as I hardly find it enjoyable. I’m afraid that by dropping everything my senior year, it could tell colleges that I’ve been partaking in music just for the sake of application (which is what I would be doing if I don’t drop it next year), and it would look pretty bad. I will be taking 4-5 AP classes next year, which might explain my dropping of guitar ensemble, but would it justify leaving Show Band? (I could also explain leaving show band as a need to take my work hours at my job, and I would be glad to work more, but I’m still not sure).
Would this be worth it?
