Should I Retake...

…a course that I may wind up with an A- in?

I say this because I have a 4.0 now and if I blow my final tomorrow (which I may) I’d ruin it. I’m an elementary ed major in PA and want to get a master’s and then a job and I’d like to have 4.0’s on both undergrad and masters so I can actually get hired within a year after getting that masters (allowing for one year of subbing if necessary).

I don’t think you need a 4.0 to get hired as an elementary teacher. :)

Isn’t that a little bit much? Do you really need to ask this question?, I doubt it matters and anyway I doubt you can take the class over if you got an A- in it. Here we can only take classes over we have gotten C- or lower in for a change of grade.

wow…

I know some places look at GPA when you apply so I want a 4.0. Don’t want to be turned away because of a 3.95 undergrad. No way in hell I’d work at McDonald’s.

My transcript already looks bad because I have one withdraw.

roflmao (10 char)

hahaha, nice one

People didn’t pick up your sarcasm because they actually feel this way (to a certain extent)

LOL

Even if you retake the course the lower grade may still show up on transcript so you’ll be screwed no matter what you do! If I were you I would start applying to Mcdonald’s right now.

I’d go join the charizard/sauron thread. You guys will be great pals.

Sorry about the panic attack. One of my profs has all of us under the impression that a school will toss your resume if you have below a 4.0 so I’m just sort of worried.

The class is a gen ed, and I don’t see any grade policy in the handbook about retaking it and having the old grade show or for that matter not being able to retake it.

Maybe she meant 4.0 for core classes? I know I’m going to flunk philosophy if I ever have to take it so I may have to kiss goodbye any good GPA there. Or maybe a 4.0 in grad school (where I don’t need pointless gen eds) would trump, say, a 3.96 in undergrad?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

HA!

So this prof is pulling our legs?

Yes…

educators at all levels are always making the future seem harder than it really is. i remember in middle school teachers talking about high school teachers were going to be stricter and harder. not the case. same thing was said in high school about college, and it isn’t the case. a non-4.0 gpa will not be the end of your professional career. how anyone can even believe that is beyond me. do you really think all successful people had 4.0 GPAs in college? all you have to do is ask yourself that question just to see how full of bs your professor is.

most of the time a retake will just cause the 2 grades to be averaged. regardless, this is the dumbest idea i’ve ever heard.

The general northeast/mid-atlantic area is desperate for teachers. You will have no trouble at all getting a job with a 3.9 in undergrad.

BTW…get a life. It’s unbelieveably sad that you think a 3.9 will ruin you and that the only job you think it would earn you is at McDonald’s. I don’t want to turn this into a debate, but this all-work-and-no-play-in-any-way-shape-or-form attitude is not going to make you as happy as you think and WILL drive you certifiably insane.

Thanks for the support, Frostburg.

I’ve also heard I have an edge in the fact I’m a male elementary ed guy who would like to teach third grade (most seem to only want fourth or fifth).

Of course, if I move to Florida I will be near my cousin, who is planning on majoring in elementary ed and also wants to teach third grade. The only downfall there is that I know little if any Spanish (not sure if German would be marketable down there). Georgia, perhaps, if I do want to move? My cousin could move up.

Oh, and about get a life…yeah, I probably do need one of those. Outside of school, church, and work, I hardly am ever out of the house.

I hope this thread is a joke.

Grades in college are not even that important. What college do you go to?

A 3.0 GPA from a good private school is better than a 4.0 from some crappy state school.

^^ Yes :stuck_out_tongue: .

Yeah, I go to a private school. A local one with a reputation of a good ed department.

Also, many people from my alma mater are in regular contact with me. I’m hoping to volunteer there as soon as next week once finals are done–probably tutoring elementary kids. I was heavily involved as a computer tech there (all volunteer and I led some projects as well). The superintendent has changed and some of the higher up are gone, but hopefully the connections there might help me land a job, especially if I keep active within the district?

The thread’s not a joke, though I’m very angry at the prof who is feeding us LIES right now.
