Should I send my community college grade to colleges I applied to?

I’m a senior who just applied to colleges. I took calc 3 this semester at local cc and ended up with a B. I was trying to submit my cc transcript to all the colleges I’m applying to as a part of the mid year report, but I have to pay for each school. I talked to my counselor and she told me she can’t put it on my high school mid year report. I just called some of the schools and they said they wouldn’t consider this course if I don’t send them. I’m thinking about majoring in math or physics so I don’t think it would really help me… What should I do??

You do need to send it to each school, they will have a record that you took a class at that community college and you must report all HS and college courses you have taken on the common app.

Are you talking about the charges sending the transcript thru Parchment? Or have you asked the CC registrar to send it colleges, and they charge for that?

Yes, the service they use to send transcripts charge cost. The representative from one the colleges told me they wouldn’t consider that course at all if I don’t send the grades. Should I still send to that school?

I am surprised a rep said that. Yes, I would send the transcript to all your schools. And report that you attended CC on your common app.

Yeah I was surprised too (it was Harvard) Sorry for asking tons of questions but do you think there’s more advantage to sending than not sending even if I got a B in college math course as a prospective math/physics major?

IMO you don’t have a choice to not send it.

ETA: did you write in your common app education section that you attended a CC? I’m assuming you received CC credit for the course?

@skieurope anything about Harvard that would lead you to think they don’t wouldn’t require that transcript?

There was a thread here a while back…While a totally different situation than yours, the underlying problem the poster faced was that she had forgotten to send one of her community college transcripts to the program she had been accepted to. She didn’t intentionally do it - she just forgot about it (it had been several years ago, and she had other transcripts that she had submitted, but this one slipped through the cracks).

Unfortunately, as a result of her oversight, her acceptance was rescinded.

Don’t take that chance.

No. My understanding is that they require all transcripts.

I think either the question posed or the answer received was misunderstood

It’s usually acceptable for the HS to send as an addendum and not incorporated into the HS transcript. You still have to pay the CC once for the transcript, but it’s better than paying 20 times.

My counselor just told me they can’t help with it and it would be unethical for her to do so, even though I don’t think it is. She also said colleges won’t believe it if the high school sends thrm?
For Harvard, that’s what the representative told me. I did explain all my situations over phonecall. They do know I took that course because it’s on my transcript and I indicated on Common App.

I thought you said the class is not on your HS transcript? Regardless, you have to send it. Your HS may not send it if it wasn’t thru a DE arrangement.

I apologize for confusion. So on my official high school transcript, there is a note section that I took this class. But on my school’s mid year report, they can’t put the grade I got from that course. Honestly based on the replies I got, I think I should still send it. The only problem is that I applied to a bunch of schools, and I’d have to pay for every single one of them.

That’s how it often works. Do all your schools require midterms grades? Double check that and only send to the schools that require them, for example, UIUC doesn’t look at semester 7 grades for any applicants.

Check with each of the 20 schools to find out if they will accept self-reported grades for the mid-year update. The UC system works this way. Colleges risk nothing by doing so; at the school you eventually enroll in you will be required to send final transcripts so they’ll see the actual grade and can rescind you if you were dishonest.

We went through this. Parchment charges $5.30 for each transcript. We send in 14, and view this as just cost of the process.

But now with mid-year report, we are not sending in “updated” anything from CC unless specifically asked. HS did upload a HS mid-year report as required.

If S24 doesn’t get in, it won’t be because of one “missing” grade.

I believe you are required to submit all transcripts for all college courses you have taken. When my kids applied, that was a very very clear requirement.

Yes you will. So…send the transcripts. If it’s required.

Random question but why do you think the representative from Harvard told me I don’t have to send it if it’s required?

You know…sometimes the folks on the phone aren’t always accurate. If Harvard expects transcripts from all college courses you have taken, it’s required.

@skieurope

I double checked, and I was incorrect above. Harvard does not require your community college transcript. However, in the application review, you will also not receive any consideration for the cc course in the admissions process without the transcript. So if you listed it in your application, it’s ignored with no transcript.

Again, that’s Harvard. Other colleges may have different requirements

Thanks for checking.

So @Uris_11 its your choice whether to send this…or not…for Harvard.
