Should i take a possibly unnecessary AP test?

As many of you know, today is the deadline for signing up for AP tests. My question to you is:
Should I take an AP test of a course that I definitely major in? Specifically US history.
I am not taking APUSH, and my teacher said that getting up to speed with all the other APUSH kids is about 10 hours extra studying. Money for us is kinda tight right now, and I don’t want to spend any money on a test that won’t even influence me being accepted.

You have 3 hours to respond. Anything will help

i guess this is more asking if taking a AP test affects your eligibility even if it is not in a major you are not going to take. some people take as many AP tests as they can in hopes that that will affect their chances of getting into a college. i put this thread into the Cal Poly section because it is my ‘dream college’. hope this clears any confusion, a simple “yes” or “no” would suffice!

senioritis got to me. i got accepted to CP but decided that i only wanna take ap govt test and skip ap lit. lololololololololololol useless test

I’m of the viewpoint that the AP tests are still useful, usually. Also, compared to your university coursework, they are dead easy. Get what you can while you can. As far as cost goes, let me just say $60 for an AP test sure beats $2,200 for a quarter’s worth tuition.

Here’s a list of what credit they are worth.

AP US History currently does look rather useless, at least if it’s taken alone. However, if feel like trying for AP government as well, you get GE area D1 out of the way before you even set foot on campus. I don’t think they take AP scores into account for admissions, but I really don’t know for sure.

AP Literature is probably the single most worthwhile AP test you can take, unless you are an Engineer (AP Calc, AP CSC, AP CHEM and AP Physics become more valueable if you need them). If you score a 4 or 5, you get C1 and A1 credit. These are the most impacted GE classes and GE area A blocks other classes. AP government isn’t worth much unless you also do AP US History.
