Should I take this class if it lowers GPA?

Hello,

I am doing a research program this summer which is highly exclusive and a once in a lifetime oppurtunity. If I take philosophy over the summer (religion is a graduation requirement at my school) I will sacrifice 2 weeks of my program (1.5 month program). If I take it during the year, I will not be able to take orchestra which I took last year. Orchestra is a pass/fail class and I am taking 4 AP classes one regular (wont let me into AP Lang even though I had a 760 CR 740 Writing…) so it would drop from a 4.8 to a 4.65 or so weighted max. Would it also not look good as it would be disrupting continuance of a EC? If I didnt take orchestra I would take Philosophy 1st semester, Economics (Non AP) second. Would this be a better choice?

Just curious, how does your school weight GPA?

5.0 for AP, 4.0 for regular, 4.5 for honors

What year are you? Do you have to take Philosophy this summer or this fall, or is there another possible time for it? Is Econ required? You should fit in your required classes before Orchestra. I wouldn’t take Philosophy during your research program.
