Should you stack dirty dishes for your waiters/bussers?

“As a waitress I’ve also been so bold as to ask that someone cut through their steak to be sure it is cooked exactly the way they like it.”

The very expensive, high end steak houses do exactly the same.

I went out to breakfast this week. Friend and I lingered over coffee…and our dirty plates…despite asking the waitress THREE times to please remove them.

We finally stacked them at the edge of the table. She then got the hint.

And the place was empty…so NO we weren’t clogging up a needed table.

Of course, I still use place cards for dinner parties, so I’m pretty seriously old fashioned

We use place cards since my niece and nephew starting at ages 5 and 7 would plop themselves down next to each other in the very center of a long table at every family get together and literally not say more than two words to anyone but each other. You’d ask questions, no answer only a shrug. It would totally interfere with the flow of conversation. Thus: place cards where they were put across from each other at one end ( so they could talk but not just whisper and giggle to each other)

When the kids asked why they were always at the end we told them and their mom says " well they just don’t like talking to anyone but each other" um ok. They are 13 and 15 now. Still can’t get more than 2 words out of them.
