Shout Out to all the CC "Northern & Midwest Friends"

When Jim Cantore is in your city, you know it can’t be good

I don’t know how you can stand 80, much less the scary temps you get during summer.

Of course, I’d take subzero temps over icy 30s.

Snow is very nice, but it can certainly be inconvenient when it all falls at once. I remember the St. Patrick’s Day storm in '02 when we got 30 inches on one March day

Agree doom and gloom is horrible, but the worst for me is the vicious winter wind and all the yucky dripping muddy boots, coats, coveralls and gloves. My garage door opens directly into my kitchen and I get soooo sick of looking at all that from Nov to Apr. First warm day and I throw it all to the basement and tell them to layer hoodies.

Am in northern IN–there’s no way I’d want to be on those planes landing at O’Hare. Our shingles will blow off with wind above 30-35 mph, esp. when it’s from the east, which it currently is. That’s my main concern right now. That and the 2 day old bottle calf in the barn.

Thinking about all who are in the path of this storm. They are truly experiencing weather history. Here in northern MN today we had 5 above, crystal clear blue skies, very light winds. Perfect day to run into town and get some shopping done. Our snow begins in November, lasts until late March and stays pure white. We just drive, walk, ski, even bike on snow covered streets and sidewalks - traction is pretty good at temps around zero. I don’t miss Chicago winters one bit.

I like snow! Don’t particularly like driving in blizzards or on really icy roads and I don’t like early spring with all the dirty muddy. I like early and mid-winter and being inside and watching the snow blowing sideways. I like when the snow and the howling wind ends and you go for a walk through big drifts and the world is very quiet and still and the plows haven’t started. I love putting on so many layers I feel like I’ve got a fat suit on. I don’t do well in hot and dry. I was out in LA one August and I felt like every ounce of moisture had been sucked from my body. I also don’t like hot and humid for the opposite reason…so I’ll take this midwest weather with a multitude of seasons and variety and the knowledge that whatever we have today will be different in a very short amount of time.

Snow day in Michigan tomorrow! :)

553 school closings or delays in the Detroit area. As of now I still have class tomorrow and strongly suspect that will not change. I don’t think we’ve had a snow day here since the 70’s.

<<<-------- Anyone want to borrow my screenname for a while?

We had thundersnow! I am officially thrilled. My school still isn’t closed, though. Not surprised.

I don’t envy all the people who have to drive in this. We were warned that dining and cleaning services were likely going to be short staffed today. I am just glad we didn’t lose power!

Love, love, love the snow but hate the ice.

Sitting here as the ice piles up on the trees this morning . The snow did not have a chance to melt off the the limbs and pines yesterday and the sleeting ice is accumulating on top. I just heard one loud crack out back and it’s too dark to see very far into the yard. The sound of a 70’ tree crashing down through the darkness is very distinctive. It raises the hair on my arms and I find myself moving toward the treeless side of the house.

But snow…oh, my. It transforms your world. The other week I was out at dawn in a snowstorm. The flakes were huge and falling quietly. It was so, so very quiet and everything was coated. The morning sky was purple and blue and so were the shadows on the snow. It was absolutely beautiful.

My H was suppose to fly from Europe to NYC today, do two days of work before he came home. But due to the snow (his flight got cancelled), he is coming straight home. As tomorrow is Chinese New Year, I am thrilled he is going to be home early.

We are in Mexico City. It is always around 75 and sunny year round. My parents are in the NE, so I am kind of worried about them. The only good thing is that my parents are like most typical older people, they have enough food in their freezer to last them few months, so they won’t need to go out for grocery.

Stay safe and warm.

I am at my parents’ in Chicago’s far western suburbs and feeling very thankful that my dad was released from rehab yesterday, not today. The snow is still coming down hard, but looking at the radar I think the end is in sight.

All the snow in Chicago area now is lake effect.

We are not allowed to go on the roads. All roads are closed in the area according to the recorded message from the PD.

Happy chinese New Year oldfort.

It’s astonishingly beautiful outside right now.

Hey, how about a shout out to your friends in north Texas?! Second snow day here. Actually it’s an “all the roads are covered with a sheet of ice and it won’t melt because it’s 8 degrees” day. They are starting to have rolling blackouts.

Here’s hoping that NONE of you lose power. It’s the ice that is the real worry. S and I were looking at the webcams of several schools in the NE where he applied and we just laughed at the incredible differences to where we are now (NC). It is incredibly beautiful.

Well there is hope. [Punxsutawney Phil predicts an early spring - Yahoo! News](http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110202/ap_on_re_us/us_groundhog_day)

Stay warm everyone!

^^I fogot about “Phil” in the middle of the blizzard last night! Good to know spring will come early. Its amazing outside right now. I veritable winter wonderland…16 inches of snow and it’s still snowing and will be for another couple hours. Thunder snow and lightening is a really unbelievable phenomenon. Definitely a sign of a “real storm” and not something you experience very often if ever.

Kung Hei Fat Choi!

missypie,

Stay safe. Ice can be worse than snow in many respects. But still, do you miss IL?

And your D’s uni for next year is closed today.

we’re in an ice storm, i’m about to head out to work. i’d much rather prefer snow to ice.
