With regards to science … my d has AP Bio, honors chem, AP chem, honors physics, and she’ll have honors anatomy and physiology and maybe AP physics next year. She counts all of those science classes? Which would be okay, as she has “A’s” in them, but just wondering …

zebes

Yes, she counts them.

I just think it’s sad that UF only counts core academic courses in the GPA. What if a prospective student wants to be a theater major? Lawyer? (Pre-law classes don’t count) Doctor? (Nope. Pre-med courses don’t count either.) Architect? There are so many electives and/or “academic electives” offered at my school related to these majors that don’t count towards UF, and frankly, it’s a shame. It’s almost like UF got bullied into the belief that only “core” classes matter; a belief fueled by the FCAT.

unweighted 3.94
weighted… no idea, but i’ve taken all of these ap classes and gotten a’s in all except for 3 b’s… EDIT my only 3 b’s were in ap classes

its an all year class. i am on BLOCK scheduling. anyone know what my chances are

don’t sweat it. with numerous AP courses, your UF gpa must be very high.

ya i’d like to hear a percentage though. also i put undecided.

100% chance

the person above me said it.

Wow, now I’m really scared.

Everyone in my AP Enviro class today was talking about admissions today. (Everywhere, not just UF.) I mentioned how I’m ultra-worried I am that I’m going to be rejected Friday because of my low UF GPA. They still think I’ll definitely get in because of my ACT, my dad’s legacy status, awards, my scholarship to Miami, and my learning disability/extreme upward trend excuse for my GPA. You see, they see my GPA/grades as a PLUS because of my upward trend and say that I’m not like the other 3.57 GPAs because my relatively low freshman/sophomore year course load (only one honors class) is weighing me down and they’ll put much more emphasis on Junior/Senior year. I just don’t trust them, and I just have a feeling my GPA is going to kill me in the end.

My stats again:

ACT- 32
R- 34
E- 33
M- 33
S- 28
W- 11 out of 12
SAT: M-690 R-680 W-620
UF GPA: 3.57 (Not a typo. That’s what the “special consideration” is for!)
Unweighted GPA (not UF) 3.87/4.0
Over 340 hours of comm service
Secretary of Young Democrats
Learning Disabled (Checked box for “special consideration”)
100% Bright Futures
$16,000 annual scholarship to UMiami (Hopefully this shows promise for UF admission)
National History Day
AP Environment (Only AP)
FAU Honors Summer Institute Program (Took a college junior level college class on cancer biology)
Intended Major: Political Science (Maybe a minor or double major in Environmental Science.)
Legacy: Dad

Do you guys think legacy helps that much? I had heard it didn’t really, but both my parents went there (in addition to like 6 cousins, my aunt, uncle and grandpa LOL)… I was mad there was only 2 spaces for legacy on the app!

VIP legacy with clout, maybe. Otherwise, join a very long line.

Well, since so many have moved to Florida recently, I’d think that there is actually a smaller ratio of legacy applicants than before.

Hmm… if a guy who had near perfect SAT scores, curriculars, and gpa who had two parents go to Dartmouth got rejected (from dartmouth), you can safely bet legacys make no difference at the University of Florida.

Well, you can’t really compare the two colleges together. One’s state; the other is private. One is facing budget cuts, the other isn’t etc.

One is Dartmouth, one is the University of Florida

I agree with dvm and vincanity, you can’t compare those schools. In some schools, legacy is very important, and some it doesn’t make a difference.

Tweetjazz: The only legacy that really counts are parents, siblings, and grandparents. However, more than one parent won’t count for more than only one parent.

Dvm: Do you really think UF will see your scholarship to UM? And if they did, it would be a plus? Also, just out of curiousity, are you in the top 10%?

They won’t see the scholarship. If anything, it is just a good sign that he is qualified enough to gain acceptance into UF
