I have heard from many sources that it is important to let know the Office of Admission that UVA is truly your first choice. To do this, one should call and ask questions, make visits, and simply put his or her name out there. I have known that UVA is the one for me for quite awhile now. It is indeed a choice I made several years ago. I have visited the beautiful campus, spoken with more than one of the admission officers, and even engage in long talks via e-mails with a current student there. But the admission office is not aware of this as my name was never revealed and was only written about 20 times on one of those little cards for the maling list. Did I make a mistake by not calling the office for example when I had questions. While I waited for UVA to visit my school, my questions were either answered by my g.c. or my friend who attends UVA already. Still, I bombarded the lovely representitive with questions. I don’t know how important this is really. I worry too much these days and this is just one of those things.

i never went on an official tour of UVa, never called the admissions office - let alone step in it until I was admitted to the school. I wouldn’t worry about it.

If you did ED, there’s not much else you can do that will tell UVa that it is your top choice.

I would be extremely surprised if the person you called even wrote down your name, assuming you were just asking a general question about the school.
