<p>I read a study that said that nationwide, having two kids in college at the same time maximizes the total aid that a family can receive. In other words, if you have two kids start college 4 years apart, you might not be eligible for much aid. However, in the years when both kids are in college, almost everyone is eligible for significant aid.</p>
<p>This is because most aid is based upon current income, although most colleges do assume that you were supposed to have saved money beforehand.</p>
