*sigh* I'm screwed

So I had some high hopes about getting into the U of Chicago after I recieved multiple acceptances to the UC System this past week. UC Davis, UCSC, UC Santa Barbara, but then I got a big fatty Rejection from UC San Diego today :expressionless: From the looks of it, UCSD is much easier to get into than U of Chicago so I feel utterly hopeless. My stats are as follows:

Male
Comp Sci Major
Mexican
GPA: 3.4ish :expressionless:
SAT: 1920
ACT: 30
Multiple Honors + AP courses
Great EC’s including multiple professional programming / web design jobs. I’ve created database systems for prominent companies. I’ve been in premier choirs since i was 6, I play guitar, drums, piano. A ton of Community Service. AKA my strengths are in my EC’s
My essays were very good, explained my GPA

So my GPA sucks, but it’s only because of my sophomore year. I did extremely poorly, but hte following summer and next year (junior summer/year) I recieved straight A’s and had all A’s for midyear with 1 B. My SAT is under what collegeboard says is the middle 50%, I’m Out of State, and my GPA sucks. Is there any hope?! I sent in a ton of Extra stuff like a song i recorded, some photography, artwork, etc.

for large privates like u of chicago, you never know.
if you’re out of state applying to chicago, you might actually have a slight advantage. unlike the uc systems, large pretigious privates actually want the diversity of oos students.
so don’t lose hope :]

dont let one rejection let you lose your hope.
besides your sat score (which i hear chicago doesnt put on weight on very much. after all you cant really judge a person by some standardized test), you seem to be a strong applicant in the other things you do. and those extra things will most likely be beneficial to you and grade improvement is always a plus for colleges. and assuming you wrote reallllllly oustandingly good essays, don’t lose any hope yet!

here’s an inspirational story:
one of my college interviewers said he got rejected from colgate univ. well, that didnt matter. he got in to princeton yale and harvard.
see? one rejection means nothing!
so relax and wait it out !:)

I’m holding on to these final threads of hope  Apparently UCSD was harder to get into this year than UCLA?! I know 3 separate occasions of friends who applied to both schools and were admitted to UCLA and not UCSD - non-impacted majors. People must really love UCSD - I personally believe chicago is 1000000x better but you know californians love their sunshine

It could also be that UCSD didn’t think they were likely to attend, so they didn’t accept them. maybe?

My S got a rejection from one of his match/safeties, was wait listed by two others, and was accepted at all his reaches. One never knows…

Unless by One you mean the Fortune Telling Machine in the movie ā€œBigā€ā€¦I’m pretty sure that guy knows.

that doesn’t really make sense

yeah…what?

hahaha, nevermind…it really didn’t apply to anything

I’m completely insane.

is there such a thing as partial insanity?

hmm…I don’t think COMPLETE insanity exists…i mean, people who are labeled insane often have certain sane attributes

I’m glad we’re having this discussion.

I’m not entirely sure you are…

Then by all means, ignore me.

but you really should be

maybe anything that has to do with the post? Just throwin it out there…

Nothing anyone says can matter when thinking about UofC. I was accepted EA without the amazing stats that some people have. My GPA was a little higher than yours, my ACT a little lower.
I would say without question that what Chicago looks for are people who had fun with their applications. They want to see who you really are, not who they want you to be. If you were able to let go, and have fun with your application then they’ll be able to tell.

A rejection form one school doesn’t mean ANYTHING. I knew a kid who was accepted at Northwestern and rejected at Michigan State. Go figure.

I know someone who was accepted at Cornell, Swarthmore, Northwestern, and Berkeley… And rejected at San Diego State.

No worries.
