Silver Knight Award

I was nominated by my school for a local award in Florida called the Silver Knight. I don’t know too much about it, but I understand that the application process is grueling. With everything else - especially college applications - that I have going on, I’m wondering if it is even worth accepting the nomination. What insight or advice can you Florida students share with me?

You were nominated for the Silver Knight Award? Congratulations!!

I don’t know anyone personally who received the award, but I do know that is a very prestigious scholarship set up by The Miami Herald. It is given in different categories like English, science, media arts, foreign language, etc. You have to be really dedicated to a specific cause in each category.

You actually get like thousands of dollars in scholarship.

Of course you should accept the nomination. Why not? It’s a citywide or countywide award in Miami, and is a big deal.

If you win the award, include it on your college apps, and indicate how many people were eligible. For instance, “Won the Silver Knight award for being the most outstanding h.s. journalism student in the Miami area.”
