Can someone tell me how I check my Medicare supplement plan to see if I have the Silver Sneakers benefit?
@showmom858 -I went to my plan ( BCBS of MN) logged in and clicked on benefits. There was information about silver sneakers there and a link . I put a bit of information in ( name, DOB, zip code) and it sent me to the SS website . Apparently I am eligible. Just found out this evening. The SS site showed me some local fitness centers that I could use other benefits at. One is only a mile from my house.

The insurance plan we have and use as our MediGap plan does NOT offer Silver Sneakers but DOES pay most copays after Medicare pays what it is supposed to so, no complaints here. We joined Elks Club and paid for admission to exercise room.
I take a couple of classes at my rec center that are what I call a step up from the Silver Sneaker classes. I’m not quite 65 but most of the women are 65-75, some super fit. A new woman joined our class and told me she’d tried the other class but got yelled at for not holding onto the chair! I guess that explains why. She’s one of those 70 something super fit people.

At our rec center, residents can bring in their supplemental insurance card (or number)… and they can check if covered. They are partnered with Silver Sneakers, Renew Active and One Pass. The classes are titled “Silver Sneakers”, but the other similar programs covered too.

Not every Y will accept other Y memberships. I’ve tried. My local Y accepts Silver Sneakers, and gives me a Y membership card. It looks just like any other member’s card. However, when I’ve tried to use that same card at Y’s in the Tacoma/Seattle area it will not work. These Y’s do not accept SilverSneaker membership (they have chosen to accept Silver and Fit instead), and they do not accept my Y membership from another state. They somehow know the difference (probably within the bar code). It worked for awhile at one particular Y only because the director said ok, but once she left, the new director did not accept it. It never worked at the other Y’s.

Mine in Seattle accepts silver & fit. My sister’s in Sno Co. used to take silver sneakers, but stopped this year. They do get a membership discount, though.
Our school district has a fitness center that offers classes. They accept SS and RA as payment, but they are not necessarily classes geared to seniors (they’re regular exercise classes) - same with a neighboring district that accepts SS and RA for all of its water exercise classes.

Your sister might want to double check. My insurer’s Silver Sneakers website stopped listing the Snohomish County YMCA’s so I stopped going. Then one day I dropped in a just to give it a try, and my phone app allowed me in. I was told there had been a lot of confusion.

My insurer used to say Silver Sneakers. Now I just have full Y membership. You can go anywhere in our county and surrounding areas.
My sister’s Y confirmed no silver sneakers. Disappointing to be sure.
My closest Y accepts Renew Active for a standard membership, but unfortunately, it’s too far to use regularly.
