Sing-off

Well that was a mess.

(referring to the Sheryl Crow tune)

Having the host and judges perform with the groups was a disaster…The show has officially “jumped the shark” !!!

I liked the Neil Diamond song.

I liked the Christmas song & loved Sara B’s song. So will the old guys win??? I was for Committed, but now I’m rooting for Backbeats.

My fav is Street Corner Symphony.
When Ben Folds sang, DH asked “is he a real singer?”

Also rooting for Street Corner Symphony. Loved that Coldplay song.

Wow. I didn’t expect the final two. I’m leaning towards Street Corner Symphony now. I feel bad that they had to sing with Ben. :-)

I felt like the final two have been obvious for quite a while. Love both of them; I think Street Corner Symphony probably has the best commercial value, but I think Committed has the most pure and beautiful harmonies and arrangements.

It’s a win-win which ever way it goes.

It’s who ds and I wanted all along. I prefer SCS; he prefers Committed.

A stunning result. NOT. But at least it really came down to the best two groups. I hope that SCS gets a recording contract out of this, too.

Committed was who we voted for. SCS was also fabulous and I would have been happy with either one. I alos loved Neil Diamond song!

D is a huge SCS fan, but she actually wanted Committed to win. Her reasoning is that Committed’s best shot for a career in music is winning this show, while SCS would be constrained by the terms of the recording contract that comes with winning. She is a huge Jeremy Lister fan & feels that the face-time he got on Sing-Off will help him a ton … he was scr**ed by his recording contract at Warner (I think it was Warner …) because they never did anything for him. Getting a contract on his own terms is probably a better idea for him.

Committed is really good, and they can use this to get their feet wet in the industry. SCS is already a part of the industry; they just need to somehow get their break. D said she is pretty sure she saw Richie Lister working in the Country Music Hall of Fame souvenir shop … if that was him, he should be getting some fan recognition now. Hopefully, he will get some studio interest, as well.

I also thought the judges participation was lame, Cheryl Crow was out of tune, and Neil ROCKED IT!

I was out tonight so DVR’d it. What a yawnfest the show was. I actually came to this thread to find out who won while I am sitting watching it. I would go to bed except i am popping in and out watching the eclipse and trying to stay awake to see the moon turn red. Watching the show is not helping me in the staying awake process!!

(Neil Diamond *was *good though)

I wouldn’t call it a yawnfest, although the second hour certainly dragged some. I thought performing with the judges worked pretty well. Committeed/Boyz II Men sounded wonderful, Nicole/Jerry Lawson was credible, and Nick Lachey acquitted himself really well for a guy who hasn’t had a career in a while. Did anyone ever think Ben Folds was an actual singer? He got credit in my book for going out there in a situation that was going to make his limited ability completely clear. The Sara Bareilles song was OK, but didn’t do much to show off Backbeats. As for Neil Diamond, it was nice to see him there but he has singing issues these days, too, and shouldn’t have been exposed in that context.

Did I forget to mention Sheryl Crow? Did she have a song there? Was there anything remotely memorable about it?

“Fix You” was nice. I wish they had found a way to bring the 11th grade lead singer from the high school group back out for a little star turn – she had as much charisma as anyone on the show.

Why didn’t Neil Diamond do one of his songs? The little teasers of his songs were horrible and then he sang one of the all time most boring songs in history.

I was glad to see Committed win although I liked Lister’s group better. I hope Committed learned to never try a Queen song again - that did not end on a positive note.

I’m sure the producers made whoever won sing that. I can’t for the life of me believe that Committed would choose that song, for many different reasons.

Yeah, that was a mismatch of artist and material. Dumb, but it didn’t go on for long.

Does anyone besides my family find the judge, Nicole, to be just atrocious? Wr end up predicting what she will say and making fun of her the whole time, but we are not music experts.

Cannot stand Nicole.

From the comments here, I’m glad I watched The Closer last night.
