hello people! Can somebody please tell me more about:

HC humanities programme

and which would you pick if you got accepted to both? why?

Seems that HC Humans Program has a better reputation than RJ humans program (but then I am from HC (not HP tho) so I could be biased)

Is it true that HC people, in general, do not like the humans students. Lol. I heard they’re considered snobs.

I would goto TJC :p

I’m guessing you’re from TJC then. Lol. I thought ajayc was A-J-C. HAHHAHA
How creative of me.

Anyone able to answer my q?

Nope I am an Indian. I have never been to singapore
But I was about to go to Singapore on scholarship to TJC, but to some stupid problems couldnt :(

How sad… TJC is a nice school. But IMO VJC is the best school, with the best uniform around.

If you want a better all-round humanities education, HC Humans is the better bet; if you want to do better for your A-Levels, RJ Humans has the edge.

I was from neither, so no biasness here; but I observed that HC Humans people are by far brighter but tend to muck up their A Levels. Not that it prevents them from going places anyway.

when you say humanities, do you mean arts or humanities? the arts cohort and humanities people in rjc get treated very differently. the teachers are of different quality, as are the environment we study in. obviously, the humanities people get the better of the two.

i hear good things about hc’s humanities programme.

Your best bet would be to talk to the current J2s in the respective schemes; visiting their open days should also give you a pretty good idea–at least it did for me.

“If you want a better all-round humanities education, HC Humans is the better bet; if you want to do better for your A-Levels, RJ Humans has the edge.”

Perhaps. While the lessons for HC humanz were stimulating, even emancipating, they could also pose problems for those not inclined to independent learning (in other words, those who prefer to be spoonfed in the traditional Singaporean way; nota bene: this comment is not meant to be an indictment of RJ’s scheme, especially since I have no idea what RJ’s is like; but rather, if one must take it as criticism, a comment against the staid exam-focussed Singaporean model). Then again, here’s an anecdote from economics classes: In my 2 years there, I only encountered the Case Study in an exam once before the A levels; and even then, it wasn’t really so much a Case Study as a DRQ-cum-Case Study 2-in-1 thing. So in that sense you’re pretty much left to your own devices in terms of specific exam technique.

It’s not as bad as it may sound–most people were hard-working enough to prep exam-specific stuff like that independently; and anyway, with the way exams seem to be moving towards higher-order (and more fun) questions, you could be better off with the kind of teaching HC provides.

More to the point, OP, isn’t it too early for you to start browsing these forums?

Lol. why is it too early? I usually hang at the High School section, but wanted to know more aboutt these schemes cuz I need to make a decision. Thanks for all the info qwing and everyone else.

I did hear about the whole “need for independence” thing. Their quite serious about that huh.

isn’t HC’s Humanities program famous for sending students to Oxbridge?

I suppose it must be better than RJ’s…

poke
thread bump.

i didn’t feel very much class-ism back in RJ arts fact.
in contrast, HC humans is famous for its level of isolation even from the rest of that school’s arts stream. the biggest difference is probably a culty atmosphere (as much of one as you can get in a singapore JC) which could be attractive to some.

i’ve always thought your results are mostly a result of… you. I’ve had ****ty teachers and excellent teachers, I seem to do equally well/badly with either. Also, before RJ, I came from a pretty substandard secondary school.

My RJ class was notorious for our poor academic performance, but we apparently managed to outperform HC humans for As. Could be an aberration though.

Really, I don’t think there’s much separating the two. In fact, I frankly don’t believe that being part of the humanities program does much in the long run. If you feel along these lines… don’t make a choice based on the superficial differences between RJ and HC humans, just pick according to your preference vis-a-vis the schools in general.

haha HC humans is the best!! haha but VJ is the best JC! :p
