HarryHeng: Hahah stanford is like everyone’s favorite school - science geniuses, humanities whizzes, jocks etc etc. This is probably because stanford’s so well-rounded that nobody will feel out of place there - so just go ahead and apply!

hbrad8002: don’t worry, that’s not really an issue at all. It’s what your teacher wrote that is more important :)

question for those who can help me: does taking the SAT subject tests increase my chances of getting accepted into a college ?? i just ran through the chem and physics sample papers on collegeboard and was surprised that i was able to answer most of the questions correctly despite having only studied the O level syllabus…

so its O levels + SAT I + SAT chem and physics

do the subject tests help in increasing my chances or am i just wasting my time here ?? O levels are in less than a month and i’m mugging like crazeyyyyy ):

^ SAT subject tests are not a bonus - they’re **required **by most, if not all, schools. Getting 800/800 on your subject tests would of course increase your chance of being accepted.

Most of my friends took SAT math2, physics and chem.

i’m not talking about top 50 schools. i’m talking about top 51-100 schools.

its pure mcq and much easier than my O levels to a certain extent.

btw i’ve never heard of them being a requirement. except for top schools. yeah.

okie i correct myself - they’re required for most schools that students on CC (and this thread) are looking at. anyway if you’re looking at a 51-100 school, why aren’t you interested in nus/smu/ntu?

because singapore’s a **** country and i’m trying to get out of it ?

sorry for the tone but i have to emphasize how much i hate this place.

anyway if i do SAT subject tests, do you think i have a shot at a top 50 uni ?

^ Are you willing to pay for it (without financial aid)? Much will depend on your O-level results even in the Top 50-100 range.

i don’t need financial aid. A2s and B3s should be mostly fine right ?

beyond the top 50 schools, essays and teacher recs carry less weight.
you can take a look at this thread for ideas on schools that would probably place more emphasis on your grades:

Could the SAT play a crucial role for admission into NUS/NTU for international students though it clearly says on their respective websites that the SAT score is not counted towards the overall admission score?

No (10char)

Are you sure?Different people are giving me different answers…lol…if your answer is true,I should not be wasting my time on the SAT as I dont think I’ll be applying to the US…

Yeah SATs don’t play a ‘crucial’ role for NUS/NTU admission. They are, however, a bonus if you had taken them and done well.

Anyone from polytechnic get into UC,Berkeley?

Well, I know one guy got into Stanford from poly some years back - but he was really good - straight 4.0, WorldSkills champ, other CIP stuff, etc… like Poly is just too easy for him.

Would it affect a lot for transfer students who apply us uni if having a bad O level result??

dreamuni what is your major?

What are the admission requirement for poly student apply MIT?

What are the standardize tests need to take?

SAT Reasoning Test mainly.

Hi! Been away for too long.
So anyway in the season of college applications, my friends have advised me not to apply to Berkeley because it’s BROKE. But it’s a GREAT school for social sciences, albeit full of Asians (as usual). What do you guys think about California being completely broke & bearing in mind that Berkeley is a UC school :(

Anyway a LOT of people in my school are applying to Stanford. Which is why I’m probably not applying. Sucks. Heads up for people btw, my tutor told me those who won the Stanford Book Prize are shoo-ins.

Report by the Princetonian on how it’s tougher for Asian kids to get into colleges: [Asians may face tougher college admission process, study finds - The Daily Princetonian](http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/2009/10/12/24103/)

Between Princeton & Stanford, which is more popular among Singaporeans?
