Argh I got rejected by cal too. Anyone hear heard good news from them? So I guess I’m still waiting on mich. But not placing high hopes on that… So probably heading to uiuc in the end! Maybe I’ll see you there introverted? (:

@introverted nope got rejected by all and waitlisted for 1. quite a waste of time, and became a zombie at work… haha hope you guys get what you want, michigan isnt that hard i think!! they got a much larger acceptance rate than the UC schools!

Well now that the onslaught is over, who is able to sleep in peace finally?

@nickoo maybe… alot of adults i’ve talked to keep telling me go for SD or austin and enjoy. i’m having a heck of a hard time deciding.

@ben267 yeah hopefully me and nickoo will get in. personally i’m not keeping my hopes up though. so where are you choosing to go to?

@mrbasil i’m actually losing sleep now that i have to decide lol.

Hey guys, do ‘official high school transcripts’ include your promos, prelims and other internal exams in jc?

^ i only sent in my a/o level certs.
it might be different for those applying on predicted grades though, i’m not entirely sure.

edit: i guess if it looks good you can send in the internal results too. but mine looked absolutely horrifying :stuck_out_tongue: the school’s i applied for didn’t, but some schools might require them though. it’s best to check with the schools itself first.

^ what schools did you apply for?

Hey ALL!

I was looking through the thread and realized not alot people were from poly.
I am going to study Accounting and Finance in poly this year and was wondering about some stuff.
Do poly students apply as undergrads or transfers?
Is the selection process tougher as a transfer or undergrad?

The other thing is my SAT score. I took the test a while back and scored pretty low - 1800. I was in holiday mood after olevel so I didn’t concentrate :frowning: . I understand that I can take the test 2 more times but was wondering if I should take the ACT instead?

Yeah… but if you’re not doing science/math/engineering, I feel that UT Austin is more recognised in Singapore than UIUC?

dude you can take the sat as many times you want, i did mine 4 times lolol. and if you don’t do so well on the sat doesnt mean you’ll do better on the act. guess if you keep trying you’ll get the score you want!

^ Agreed! But the schools will know how many times you took it though, and anything more than 2 (some say 3) will reflect badly on you. ><

^ there is something called score choice though…

@valour UIUC, UM, UCSD, UCB, UCLA, UT-austin
only UM and UT-austin required me to send transcripts.

i’m having a heck of a hard time deciding which university to choose.

^true, but not all schools accept it. Many top schools don’t. In any case, they will know how many times you took it; the records are there if they want to look you up.

Anyway, congrats! You have a lot of options there… (:

^ they can? i was under the impression it was only the scores you sent. not too sure about the number of times taken though.
quoting the score choice page on collegeboard:
“Students are encouraged to follow the score-reporting requirements of each college to which they apply, but their scores are not released for admission purposes without their specific consent.”

ah no no that was the schools i applied for lol. only 3 of those admitted me. seriously though it’s a really difficult choice.

exactly; they can, with your consent. I mean, if they want to, and you deny the request… that says something too, haha. The UCs in particular do not accept score choice, so for Berkeley and LA for example, they only look at your “single-sitting” scores. So even if you take it 3-4 times because of sub-par scores, it will look equally bad either way (unless it’s a significant improvement across all three parts of the test during a particular try).

Well I would consider financial aid, and the environment (not only of the school, but also surrounding areas) - large coastal metropolitan areas usually yield more job/internship opportunities. If you’re inland, they’re not really going to spend money flying you out for internship interviews and stuff. Besides, the connections you can make with specific individuals in large companies decrease significantly if you don’t often have face-to-face interactions with these people.

I would say for your intended choice of major undergrad research is equally important - look into the availability of research options for undergraduates.

**** Umich waitlisted me as well.
I FEEL SAD :frowning:
lol okay not really since i was expecting it but still doesn’t feel good to have the last sliver of hope that was holding out crushed :frowning:
@nickoo hope you got in!

@eloriel
i guess it would be pretty dumb to send individual scores from separate sittings. especially when it goes against the school’s score policy.

i don’t think they would give me financial aid haha. especially since i’m going on my parent’s money.

thanks for the advice eloriel! slowly agonising over my choice…

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your help on my previous question it really helped a lot!
I wanted to ask another thing about AACSB.I was looking through the Accredited Colleges and Im only familiar with a few, the others are like state universities and aren’t that well known (im not saying state colleges are bad !)

I mean AACSB is an international association and NTU is on the list so employers here will recognize the overseas degree right?

forgive me if im asking a stupid question :(

Going to UIUC for CS here! Really excited.

Also: to whoever said taking the SAT multiple times is bad – only if you show no improvement, or worse, a downward trend. I took it three times over four years and improved by about 100+ points each time. Top schools, I believe anyway, are more interested in trends than anything. I submitted all my scores, even the first one, which was a 1980.

tks muffincakes!

@muffincakes: I did. While that is somewhat true, the chances of you showing no improvement or a downward trend are high (according to the score reports - they tell you what repeated tries are likely to give you in terms of score).

Your situation is different because you took it over four years. Obviously four years is a suitable enough time to mature in terms of thinking and analysis. Most people only start thinking about the SAT during JC, which leaves them 2 years. Many only take it in JC2! So taking it multiple times within their JC years (most common occurrence and thus what I was referring to) would not be very desirable since any score improvement would just be a stroke of luck, or not necessarily due to better thinking and knowledge acquired over time. So there’s a high chance of your score staying the same or decreasing, and we all know that’s not good…

I took it twice myself; once at the end of Sec 4 (and I fell asleep for the WHOLE of section eleven… so obviously I took it again) and once at the end of JC1. Improved by 230 points.

Anyway, @introverted: Don’t be upset! Congrats on your acceptances (: Being a scholar at UIUC is a good thing too!
