so who’s applying for 2009 fall?

and btw i have some sat subject test books for sale (pristine w/o pencil marks) so do hit if you need.

hey since we’re on the topic of interviews, could someone share any quirky / unique interview qns ur got? (e.g. something beyond “what is your intended major”, “why you want to go to xx school” type of qns)

oh ya, and ALSO, could someone share their apps timeline? for e.g. for JC 2s, when did ur start researching on unis, compiling the final list, starting on common app, starting on essays, etc. while balancing with A levels and all your other commitments?

What ice cream flavour I would be…

Trelawney: let me share my timeline then
CC everyday, then start preparing after xmas

But obviously this has its flaws as well… i’m still writing my essays now ><

this is something i noticed out there…not sure whether it might help, but here goes…people who normally apply for the western universities normally find it generally tougher because the caucasians prefer to challenge you to whatever reply you might give them…its not like the typical asian mindset, so its better if you think before you speak. It also shows them that you are in a way mature…

HAHAH YES this is me.

Hi, I’m new here. Can anyone let me know if PSC scholarships are the only scholarships which will let you disrupt from NS? What is the competition for OMS/PSC like? If you get acceptance for a top school, eg. Yale, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge does that improve your chances? Thanks!

The President’s Scholarship, SAFOS, SPFOS and PSC OMS are the only scholarships that allow you to defer from NS.

I don’t think getting an acceptance from Oxbridge would improve your chances that much - since they look out for different things (i.e. Oxbridge and other UK schools uses academics as the primary determining factor while PSC adopts a similar method as most US universities - looking at the whole person, including academics, CCAs, community service, etc…)

That said, getting an early acceptance from HYPSM and the like might indicate that you have a higher chance (than the usual top student) of getting the top PSC scholarships.

Thank you, Frankchn. I’m glad British pound is about 2.12 now. Hope it goes down to 2!

And if you’re so inclined, so does SAF’s SMS, but it’s army for like 10 years. :)

also, I would guess more than 1/2 of US PSC scholars get their university offers after they get PSC offers, since the US university acceptances mostly come on April 1, which is already more than halfway through the PSC’s selection period of Jan - May.

If I get into Oxbridge for Law but don’t get a scholarship, would anyone advise going anyway (costs about $200-250k for 3 years incl tuition, accomodation, books, meals) or just go the NUS/SMU route and go to UK later for LLM?

lol fiona u are still online now! go do ur essays!!

Hey, how about the chinese universities like the Peking University?? With the rise of China, the future is definetely bound to be there in China rather than in the US although the US will still play a important role on the global stage…

^ Well, I’ve got friends of friends studying at Peking and Tsinghua - but they say half the undergraduate student population behave as though they are actually enrolled in a big 4-year GRE prep class - so I am not sure how I would like that (and the fact that they are insanely smart too).

lol…but the one advantage that we have here is the fact that there is a foreign quota for International students which is what we are considered and the fact that the university is not exactly as well received by students in other countries as compared to the Ivies…

Well, but of course that lower-reputation would be a disadvantage to choosing Peking U too.

I’m so stressed out over uniapps, my sleep cycle is whacked. Who wants to commiserate on MSN with me? eternalised at hotmail dot com =)

^ lol…lol…

Can’t you have some sympathy, 1234d?

i’m symphathising with you…did you finish ur essays in time?
