@1234d: I sent everything around 28th Oct (normal post), and only received my Eli PIN letter on 28th Nov. By then they’d received everything but its the EA round so there were much less applicants.
If i were u i wouldn’t worry too much about it. Harvard only received all of my stuff for the RD round a full 2 months after i sent them… Considering that Yale is getting 26,000 application, it’s going to take a while. If by end of Feb they still havent got your things then send again. But that’s unlikely la. Singpost is slow, but quite reliable.

@BearCub: I know!! haha well for what it’s worth I made sure that the whole attendance fiasco is not reflected on my file The teachers pretty much give me a free pass because all i ever do in their lessons is chat incessantly or sleep. But seriously i couldn’t stand maths and physics drudgery. Sigh i’m as far as it gets from the ideal student image.

I’d like to know how many of us were actually anything near “ideal”… omg, I have such stories.

One of my classmates went for less than five econs lectures over two years - the intro lecture, couple of lecture tests, and couple of lectures to get his results. This does not include one lecture he decided to go for, walked in one door, saw a teacher he didn’t like, and walked out the other door. He didn’t even get caught ponning because with the exception of his own tutor, none of the other teachers knew he was an econs student.

He got an A in Econs. Among others, he’s planning to apply to Middlebury.

I don’t see any “old people” around anymore - that is, when I was applying back in 2005.
Just finished applications for graduate school in the US. =p

Well, trust me…the number of “ideal students” in Harvard is not that high either. The school is full of smart students, but they aren’t always hardworking/nerdy. I know a friend who always skips his classes in the morning and just reads the text books before exams and still has a pretty good GPA. So, you should go to Yale and listen to the song ‘I will survive’. =)

^ I don’t think the US colleges care about your scores on your actual AP exams as much as you having taken them and achieved a good grade on your school’s finals/transcript - so it won’t matter as much if you screwed one or two AP exams up. Screwing up one’s IB / A-levels on the other hand has a much detrimental result.

anyone here heard of broward community college in Singapore. Two years and you graduate with an AAS, basically you take general requirement classes here then transfer to US colleges.

Im thinking of doing this!
Would doing this give me a better shot at applying at US colleges? And its shorter than doing the 3 year la salle diploma. mmm interesting.

Transfer applicants generally are disadvantaged when applying to selective schools.

frankchn: I think AP exam scores are used as a check for grade inflation on the AP class grades. Not to mention, having 30+ possible AP credits at a school by the time one starts senior year must count for something.

While this is true…AP is more like S paper. It’s optional and different schools offer different number of AP courses. IB on the other hand isn’t unique to US. People use IB in Singapore too. IB isn’t used in US widely either.
So, in general…Americans don’t have big general exams at the end of their high school year.

galoisien - I thought the SAT Reasoning and Subject Tests would be enough for checking for grade inflation/deflation? Not sure about that. I’ve seen people only sending their AP scores to their respective colleges only after they’ve got in and confirmed they are going.

Thanks for everyone’s reply. I do have a very clear idea of what I what I want to study. I’ve always been interested in business and I know that’s what I want to do.

I’ve heard that UPenn have awesome business programmes and Cornell is the best in hotel management. I’m having second thoughts about applying to Cornell now since they require work experience and I have none.

Other Schools which I am applying to are U Michigan, NYU, U Virginia and possibly MIT.

Oh yeah and I’m not an athlete at all, galoisien.

My O Levels were pretty decent, so I guess I’ll just have to work hard for the 'A’s.

You need to be more specific, one school may be strong in Physics, another strong in Human Biology - they are all “general science”.

For biochemistry, there are no specific ranking of undergraduate programmes, but I suppose you can look at the graduate rankings as a guide.

For Psychology (Undergraduate):
1 Stanford University Psychology 4.66
2 Yale University Psychology 4.65
3 University of Pennsylvania Psychology 4.64
4 University of Michigan–Ann Arbor Psychology 4.63
5 University of Minnesota–Twin Cities Psychology 4.62
6 University of California–Berkeley Psychology 4.61
7 Harvard University Psychology 4.59
8 University of Illinois–Urbana-Champaign Psychology 4.57
9 University of Chicago Psychology 4.56
10 Columbia University Psychology 4.55

but ok I know being a transfer student will put me at a disadvantage.

But Face it ,Im going to be a transfer student if i like it or not.
Going to lasalle and getting a diploma, also means i will have to apply as a transfer student.

So some how I feel that going to a community college ( specifically broward CC in singapore)
Will give me a better shot at applying to US universities than if i were to apply with a diploma or O levels.

The school that i REALLY want to get into is NYU. And from the statistics, their acceptance rate for freshmen and transfers are more or less the same.

Honestly im very interested in broward community college in singapore… and i’ll probably drop by next week to check it out in person.

VOTE FOR YOUR FELLOW SINGAPOREAN/HARVARD HOTTIE IN MR HARVARD FRESHMAN 2012 CONTEST

He is also a Singaporean connection alumnus. Yes, he was one of us! If you’re so inclined, trawl through the past 119 pages to find out his username. Hint: IIRC only one person in this thread has ever got into Harvard. Hint again: someone has very recently compiled a list of successful acceptances and posted it on this thread.

Read his TNP feature here: [The Electric New Paper, Singapore - The Electric New Paper News/url

He’s the only Asian left in the contest. The future of our species is at stake. Most of us Asian guys are uber nerds and that is precisely why we must rally behind the only hot one left. Singaporean somemore!

Well in my home country it’s a very long and busy holiday. Think China-style. That means boring dinners at relatives’ (my family is super huge with tons of preschool kids running around and breaking everything) and being bossed around constantly by my screaming mom. Except for the lucky money part, there’s not a whole lot of fun.
