I know studying for an AP exam by yourself is really stressful, time-consuming, and quite expensive. I applied for the Fall '09 quarter as an International student studying in the US (I got into University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign so far, but I have 14 more schools to go! D: ) and AP grades are actually do not weigh much in your application. There are some students who have never taken an AP exam before, and they still get into good colleges and excel. The AP exam just tests your knowledge for introductory college level courses, usually taken in the freshmen year of college, and if you get a good grade (3, 4, or 5) colleges let you pass out of various different introductory college level courses. This will allow you to have more flexibility in choosing your courses in college. HOWEVER, like I said, not doing AP exams will not disadvantage you AT ALL because it is still possible to complete introductory level courses and complete other requirements while still maintaining flexibility of your courses. It’s all up to you! I’m not discouraging you from taking the AP Psych exam, but I heard from my classmates it’s actually a pretty tough class, let alone study by yourself!

Hey, has anyone applied to Tufts of late? I got an email a few hours ago saying that my application is incomplete because I lack the Mid Year Grade Report and should fax it in. They’ve however, received my J2 prelims results. So do I fax in my J2 common test results or do I send them an email explaining that we don’t have Mid Year Reports in Singapore?

Thanks!

IMO i think you should tell them we do not have mid year reports, BUT at the same time tell them that you have common test results.

If your common test results are good … maybe you should just send them in. But remember to explain the situation

@Nyklen Tell them there’s no Mid Year Reports–MYR is for American applicants to update the adcoms on their grades for the first semester of senior year.

nyklen: stanford also insisted that my materials were incomplete, so i just printed out those forms (mid year, final year etc) from commonapp, wrote “not applicable” on them and got my counselor/ct to fax them over. problem solved.

Well. I actually went to check out Princeton’s and Dartmouth’s website. They want a 5 to get college credit, if not, they still wont let you skip some classes. And no, I am not doing Psychology to get in the colleges, but rather,to show my interest in the topic and save on tuition fees later on.
I dont know, people actually say Psychology AP is the easiest AP ever. I look through Barrons’(at least Psychology’s book is one third of the volume of AP Calculus, of which I totally went ZOMG) and I thought that the information was quite ok, I could understand everything at the first glance. I am just worried I wont be to memorise enough information for a 5 for the test. Any one tried cramming and still got a 5?

Any likely letters?

Hi everyone :)

All the best for admissions if you applied RD last year!

to nyklen:

I applied to tufts last year. Anyway what the rest have said is correct, just email the admissions department to tell them that you don’t have your MYR. You should not send in your CT scores unless you did absurdly well and did not suffer from the typical singaporean grade deflation.

I sent MYR at the very beginning, basically exactly the same as the secondary school report.

OMG A level results out in two days T__T I’m so not having a good feeling about this. And i can’t even be there to see it right away…

hmm…arent you going to Yale already? so there isnt much to worry is there? lol…

^ Maybe Cambridge’s the destination now…

^LOL no there’s no hope there…
But don’t we still have to send the final report with our As results?

^ Well it doesn’t matter unless you screw up majorly.

^ precisely my worry. I did a GP question that was definitely not my forte. History questions were a bit off and the rest i couldn’t bear to remember…
And i have a tendency to do crazily well for prelims but not the real thing so… Sigh

Edit: Oh and there’s always that H3 paper /:

^hmm, sounds like me…care to tell me how to handle the problem? i seem to do really well for prelims to, but just dont seem to perform that well during the real things…

^ I don’t know (yet) if i “handled” the problem. 1 more day.

Good luck to all of you getting your results on Friday! Then the scholarship madness will begin.

@confused_vnese: If you’re good enough to get into Yale which you are, then I am sure you can pull through your exams with flying colors. Best of luck.

And all the best to everyone!

How are scholarship applications more tedious that us uni apps?!

Unsurprisingly all the J3s are out celebrating/running away from home, and they aren’t posting their stats.
