I feel lucky…
It truly is the most wonderful time of the year😀. Happy Holidays!!
Hosted the first of our holiday gatherings and made a batch of Paper Planes. Citrus forward - so yummy.
That’s a lot of Pappy! My DH will be over soon…
Lights are on😀
DH will find a bottle of Dalmore Cigar Malt under the tree Christmas AM. He’d kill for the Pappy, but that’s out of my range. He’ll have to settle for plain old Buffalo Trace.
BTW, is there a story here? Pretty sure I’ve never seen that much Pappy/Old Rip in one place before. Or is that your retirement fund?
I am an advisor and supporter of a large group that syndicates entire premium barrels through on line memberships. One of the benefits is that the licensed liquor stores who are required to be the ones selling the end product show their appreciation with allocated bottles like Pappy. The one caveat is I have to personally hold on to whatever I receive, so no resale for profit.
It has proven to be an unanticipated benefit and I feel very lucky.
I’m working connections here to pick up a Pappy 15 for LEO son’s wedding. Good for you for honoring the commitment not to sell any bottles.
@GKUnion Don’t mean to get off track, but did I miss a post somewhere that your son got engaged? Congratulations! When is the wedding?
Hope you are able to get the bottle of Pappy 15 in time!
Yes, he got engaged the weekend after Thanksgiving. To keep it on track, the wedding is at a vineyard next fall.
I’d never heard of a paper plane but my nephew recently passed the bartending course at college and made them for all of us. Very tasty.
I think my husband oversleeping, missing the flight to Austin, and rebooking himself and our son for $850 means I have the right to drink today.
We bought one of those 3L wine boxes at Target on Saturday. Ohio State’s demolition of Tennessee was all the more enjoyable – and I made sure to gloat on various FB college football pages – because of it. We put a pretty deep dent in that box.
Serious question… what are the “good” boxed wines for larger gatherings (or any gathering, I suppose).
I’m not a huge wine snob on the day to day, but I’ve avoided the boxed options. I’ve noticed the past couple years several friends have the Costco Red box for “everyday” meals or casual group gatherings.
Am I just uninformed in how options have evolved? When do you buy boxed wine? Who has good boxed wine?
(If this needs to be a separate thread, I’ll start it and move this post.)
This is the first wine box we’ve bought in at least a year, so we aren’t very hip to the scene either. Typically we buy cheapish ($10-$20) bottles.
Thanks. Our “everyday” or “larger groups gathering” is finding the best bottles under $20. But if there are boxed options similarly received but better priced, I’d definitely consider.
Based on my personal observations recently I suspect I’m a bit out of the know to the acceptable/good boxed options.
What did you think of your Target boxed wine? Which did you purchase?
I wish I could recall the name brand, but this was SO’s idea. But that 3L box was like $14, and the wine (pinot grigio) wasn’t bad. Target had some sale on it – maybe a national sale…?
Thanks!
