I’m an intl student so I understand the slight delay but this is just too much. They keep redirecting me to multiple offices and not giving me a clear answer
I am also pending, admissions team keep saying, updates would be done soon, I am US citizen but residing in India, did my high school in India
Same here haha
Just checked portal and got accepted! Finally!
Congrats! Sounds like the international applicants are finally getting their decisions!
Congratulations
Congratulations!
From Bay Area. Yesterday son got off waitlist for UC Riverside CS. Confused between SJSU CS vs UCR waitlist. He is on other UC Waitlists too which may or may not come through. Any feedback?
If he got admitted to UCR off the waitlist, did he get into the CS major there?
Yes. CS major at UCR and SJSU. Currently waitlisted at UCSD, UCSB, UCD, UCSC.
Then it would come out to any cost/debt differences and what the student would prefer.
Cost delta is manageable. UCR gave some scholarships which reduces cost gap. Student is ok with either one. At SJSU he would be day scholar vs on campus at UCR. What I have heard is downside of UCR is location and upside of SJSU is location.
SJSU definitely has an access advantage (recruiting and interviewing) to many computing employers in the area.
Has he looked at the curriculum (CS major and general education) at each school, along with what additional optional CS (and other) courses are available at each, to see if either one is a better academic fit?
Does he have a preference as a commuter student to SJSU versus a residential student at UCR? Note that if you can handle the added cost, consider whether there may be advantage to living on campus first year at SJSU.
Thanks for the feedback. Will dig into curriculum at both.
if cost and living on/off campus was out of the equation, would you give SJSU edge over UCR? Although he is on other UC waitlists for CS there is no guarantee that they might come through (maybe UCSC might). Thanks @ucbalumnus
Which is better for the specific student depends on the student’s fit for the curriculum and courses (and other preferences, if any).
It can also matter what the post-college goals are. CSUs like SJSU do tend to emphasize preparation for employment, while UCs like UCR are research-oriented universities. So UCR may have an advantage if he wants to go on to PhD study. But either should be fine for going to employment, though SJSU’s location is favorable for computing employment.
I’d say if his goal is to have a job or internship as soon as he graduates go to SJSU.
Thanks
On Friday. Son got off the waitlist for UCSC Comp Sci
Need to now decide for CS between SJSU and UCSC.
@loading1 What did your son decide?
