Ok thank you! I will do that.
Thanks, that link was helpful! Wish I knew earlier. So each semester counts as +1 for any AP course. We may have calculated it wrong, as my son kept saying he took 3 AP courses, but they were each 2 semesters long and we should have added 2 for each. Anyway, I guess CSUs compute their own based on each coursework entered into the system.
Looking at the SJSU impaction results, and assuming a local student, are these correct?
Computer Engineering*^ |4040|
→ 800modified GPA + 200 local + 400 math GPA => modified GPA of 2.8 if math GPA is 4.0?
|Computer Science^ |3400|
→ ( 800* modified GPA + 200 local area) => a modified GPA of 4.00?
Software Engineering*^ 4200
→ Same method as CE. With math GPS of 4.0, modified GPA of 3.0
Do these seem correct? So CE and Software engineering were that much easier compared to CS? Or did I do any mistake above?
PS: I have a PhD in computer engineering from UCSC. And still find these too complex. ![]()
Yes, the eligibility scores for majors with the + 400 * (math GPA) are not directly comparable to other majors. (For some reason, SJSU does not specify whether any weighting is added to math GPA for this purpose.)
4.0 with 4.0 in math gives 3200 for most majors, but 4800 for majors where the + 400 * (math GPA) is added. (Note that the basic GPA with capped weighting can get up to about 4.4.)
I tried to figure out my daughter’s GPA before the CSU application opened. I never could figure it out. She is an out-of-state student which made things more interesting. We had to match A-G coursework and decide whether to report her grades by semester or for the full year. The latter had a huge impact on her GPA since first semester courses were graded, but the final grades for the year are only listed as “pass” due to Covid.
The application computed her GPA as 4.33 which would NOT have include two semesters of credit for each semester of college work. She took four community school classes her Junior year and had an overall 4.0 unweighted GPA, so that should have maxed out the cap of 8 semesters of +1 and given her the highest possible GPA. But a 4.33 was high enough to get her in, so there is no point in quibbling with their calculations.
Are SJSU decisions for Fall 2021 out yet?
Some people have been notified but not sure everyone has.
thank you
Hi there! I just got admitted, I’m super excited! I’m sure you will get yours soon.
That’s great! Congrats!
Hi Everyone!
I am an international applicant (Freshman) and I’d like to know if I have to send my financial docs to SJSU in order to know my admission decision. I have already mailed my transcripts and passport copy.
Yes you have to send your financial docs; that was the case for me
Does SJSU not factor in grades from dual enrollment courses? They calculated my gpa without considering my courses from community college (a-g transferrable courses). Their calculation also didn’t match my gpa on the CSU application.
CSU GPA recalculation is supposed to double count transferable college courses as honors courses (however, remember the cap of 8 honors points).
(click on “GPA calculator” for instructions)
Thank you!! They said they won’t count my college courses for my admissions gpa unless it’s on my high school transcript even though they’re a-g courses :((
That’s way off, not right. You don’t have control over whether or not your high school puts them on their transcript, do you? Did you match your college classes on the app? My son’s DE classes were all counted in his GPA. I would talk to someone in admissions and/or appeal if you get denied admissions…if you would be competitive with those properly counted.
I did talk to them. I had taken 3 dual enrollment courses which boosted my gpa but they said it doesn’t count. You’re right, I don’t have control over whether or not my high school puts courses on my transcript. Usually, the DE courses just become a part of my college transcript. They denied my appeal and said: "The GPA for major impaction is calculated for grades earned in “a-g” college-subject courses from 10-11th grades that are listed on your high school transcript only. Grade from college transcript is not included in GPA major impaction. Course from college transcript can be used to clear the a-g subject requirement if needed. "
It doesn’t make any sense to me because my CSU gpa on the application was high enough for CS but they had their own way of calculating it ig
That really doesn’t make sense. The CSU GPA in the application matches the computation of my S21’s GPA that includes his CCC courses.
Yeah, that’s what I thought too. They probably made some sort of mistake the first time around but the CS program is full by now so they just made an excuse to not let me in. I honestly don’t think there’s anything I can do at this point because they didn’t admit me to CS and I already filled out the appeal form once which they denied so I’m basically out of options. It sucks because SJSU was one of my top choices for CS since I’m local
What was your GPA if you don’t mind me asking?
My GPA on the CSU application was 4.14 (I’m local so I got the added 200 points to my impaction score for CS)
