SJSU Class of 2025 —Regular Decision Release Date: Feb. 22

Dang I’m sorry to hear that I was accepted into Software Engineering with just a 3.85 Gpa

Congratulations!! Yeah, there’s nothing I can do. Would anyone happen to know if switching majors before enrolling is allowed. I know that some colleges accept requests to switch majors before freshman year but I’m not sure if SJSU does this. Also, is it difficult to transfer to CS if I decide to go there?

You cannot switch majors until you enroll.

Here is the link to the most current information to change to CS: https://www.sjsu.edu/cs/practicalities/major-change/

Highlighting this statement: Due to impaction, even if the student has met all the requirements, there is no guarantee of admission to the Computer Science major. Final admission will depend on the capacity of the new major and the ranking based on the Computer Science GPA and the SJSU Cumulative GPA.

I also want to say that I am very sorry about how SJSU has treated your situation and want to add I found this on the CSU website when calculating out your CSU GPA.

** Extra points are also awarded for college courses used to meet CSU “a-g” requirements. However, no more than eight (8) extra points may be awarded to any one applicant.**

So, the CC classes you took were they used to meet the CSU a-g course requirements or just extra classes beyond the HS a-g requirements? I think that is the distinction.

Thank you! This really helps! I was definitely below the 8 point cap since my high school doesn’t have too many AP classes. My college courses weren’t used to meet the requirements as I had taken a bunch of electives but they were all a-g classes and CSU transferrable.

I tried to search this thread and couldn’t find any info on this question:

What has SJSU admissions notifications typically been like in past years? Is it fair to say Acceptances have all been given out and now it’s Waitlist and Denials?

Ok, so they would give you A-G “credit” for any you took and year, but the only ones that would be used for your GPA would be A-G courses taken in 10th and 11th grade. Maybe your DE A-G classes were taken in 9th and/or 12th grade? And others taken in 10th and 11th were not for A-G?

So complicated it makes it hard to be strategic when planning course. We only know all of this after the fact, unless you go way, way deeper when in about 9th grade, and who would know to even do that?

Anyway, that’s a bummer for you. Sorry. Expecting you’ll have some good choices elsewhere. We’re still waiting on results from appeal for my son. Your situation isn’t giving me a lot of hope.

We just received an admit letter. Not sure for which major  but I think it was for Materials Science Engineering.

Congratulations!!!

Looks like there may still be the potential for more admissions then. Thank you for letting me know.

Yes, Tina. I spoke with admissions last week and they were still drilling down on applications and hoped to have all decisions out by March 11th.

FYI - Sent an email to Housing and found out that it will open in early April

My daughter was accepted on the first day, and today she got an email to check her portal to find out the steps to confirm enrollment, pay the enrollment fee, and sign up for Camp Sparta.

I took all my DE classes in the 11th grade so I don’t think it’s that either. Good luck to your son - I hope things work out better for him!

Did your admit post mention the major you were accepted for? Ours didn’t. I am assuming that they mean the first choice.

Mine didn’t but I got another message on my portal that said it

@texashokies My son got the same email today too!

FYI …His letter specified that he was accepted to his first choice major of animation @Carbonman

And thank you for sharing the info on housing. At this point we plan on applying for it, but if fall ends up being virtual again my son might stay home instead for first semester to save money.

We went around and took a self tour of the campus today for the first time. And, I must say that housing looks very beautiful from outside. Hopefully, our kids get to see those in person before fall.

Hey Guys! I was wondering if anyone here could share their experience with the International House at SJSU? I really hope I get in, I’m a domestic student majoring in Anthro applying to it as a Freshman. Any insider info would be great. : ) Thanks!

P.S: Sorry if this is the wrong thread to post to, just digging for info.

You might have better luck posting on the SJSU Reddit  Best of luck!

Hi, I figured I would join this thread!
Accepted to pre-nursing on 2/22

  • 4.31 CSU gpa
  • 4.0 unweighted gpa
  • Santa Cruz… that might classify me as local?
  • high income
  • white
  • small public school
Not sure if all of that is relevant, but it is what I think schools take into account.

SJSU counts CSU GPA * 800 = 4.31 * 800 = 3448 for you.

SJSU counts Santa Clara County as local area for frosh and transfers and Santa Cruz County for transfers, so you would not get the local area +200. The other points that SJSU added were +40 for each of fee waiver eligibility, military status, and/or first generation to college.

However, even without bonus points, your 3448 exceeded the pre-nursing threshold this year which was 3000.
