i’m from santa cruz and got accepted too! i sent you a private message but i’m not too sure how they work on here lol so not sure if you’ll get it
What major are you tying to change into?
rejected for CS with a 3.83 gpa lol
Did u get your alternate?
nope rip
My son got rejected for CS with a 4.1 gpa (overall). I think his CSU gpa is around 3.85
ig cs is still insanely competitive there too
Yea it legit is everywhere it’s so annoying. I wanted to choose CS as my major but I did some research about how hard it was to get admitted for it at SJSU so I chose Software Engineering instead. Luckily I got in with a gpa slightly above 3.8. Hopefully u get in somewhere else.
yea hopefully but i’m starting to lose hope bc all my remaining schools are harder to get into than sjsu so might be an L
Sorry to hear. My son is also a CS major applicant. When did you get the decision?
Was this a new notification, like today?
Yes, portal updated today
Thanks!
I think the college courses need to pre-approved by the high school, IIRC. BTW, what was your alternate major? If you got into computer engineering or software engineering, that is not as bad and there may be quite some overlap. May be easier to switch also in the future?
My son got into UC Merced CSE. But I’m not sure how well that program is or the job prospects. Guess I should visit the UC merced section of this site for that.
I am encouraging my son to go to Merced. I really like it and you should go and check it out. It’s the newest American university. Just completed is a $1.3 billion dollar expansion that involved 13 new buildings, so the campus is now twice as big. To match that capacity they are now going to double the number of students. It is going to be the largest of the UC schools. I like the curriculums (they are more modern than many schools), and they have set up a great student support program to make sure students get the help they need. Tied to that is a semester based system that takes the heat off of students and is easier to get through (only Berkeley and Merced have semester based systems). On US News World Report rankings (I have my misgivings about rankings), Merced has gone up 68 points in 4 years and is now tied with Santa Cruz for 97. Considering that there are 388 nationally ranked schools in the US being in the top third of those schools is pretty good for such a young school. My cousin was hired by UCSD when it started in 1962, and I watched that school go from almost a student camp in the woods to a top university. I can’t believe that UC will do anything less for Merced. Anyway, that’s my take. Good luck!
Hi, where did you get the CSU GPA? Is it the calculated GPA listed on the CSU application?
Sorry @ucbalumnus, already answered the above question. The CSU capped weighted GPA should be the calculated GPA on the CSU application if your input of classes is correct.
Thanks, Gumbymom. So my son’s calculated GPA is 4.25, and we are local to SJSU. He applied for CS, and got denied, saying he didn’t meet the minimum eligibility index (EI) required.
If you feel this is in error, then I would contact SJSU with an appeal and have them explain why he was not admitted for CS when he met the threshold. Is the 4.25 CSU GPA with the 0.25 GPA bump and he is attending a HS in Santa Clara County?
We are from Alameda County. What do you mean by the 0.25 GPA bump?
