Skied Val Gardena in the Dolomites yesterday. Great conditions and weather.

We did a cycling trip through the Dolomites a couple of years ago, and some of the best views were from the top of the ski resort gondolas. It was expensive to go up for a fairly short period of time, but we figured we’d only be there once, so it was worth it.

That looks amazing!

Great that you did that gondola ride! I sometimes hesitate to add that kind of small splurge to an already expensive vacation… but once back home I’m always glad we did so.

Snow report from our week-long skiing last week in CO, 3/9-13 - very good snow at Loveland and Copper. Daytime temperatures were in the 30s/low 40s but lots of wind, nighttime temps 10/20s. Prevented the thaw/freeze so runs stayed un-icy. With the low snow accumulation for this winter in CO, I was very impressed how well the snow was maintained at those resorts. Might be a bit different after the warm up this week though. Native COs, thank you for sharing your state with us ski tourists! (even though I lived in CO for 5 years; school/working). It’s great to go back!

Remember the humongous snowstorms that hit Tahoe a few weeks ago and dumped anywhere from 80 to 102 inches of snow in a few days? Well here’s what Northstar looks like now. DS and his family are supposed to be going for their spring break. They plan to bring bicycles and find a place to ride.

We were planning to head to Mammoth week after next for a few days of skiing, but the weather is in the 50’s now so the snow is not going to last. I don’t have a place booked so I don’t have to cancel. If they get a good snow storm in the next few weeks I will make a last minute booking and we will go.

DD1 is in town for spring break and a friend lent me their condo in Frisco (Summit County Colo, near Copper, Breck, Keystone. Other daughter is the skier but DD1 does ski. I think we aren’t going to go because it is so hot. It’s going to be 85 in Denver for the rest of the week, cooler in the Mtns but not by that much!

Ski season has been bad and we’re already worrying about river rafting season.

LA, hope you weren’t planning on any water this summer as we don’t have any to send you. Love, Colorado.

And of course, in this year of bad snow and family care trips/obligations, it hapens to be the first time ever that I’ve bought a season pass (Ikon). At least I got to Eldora twice. To be honest, they were short ski days where I likely would not have paid for a ticket or used a 4pak day… so I guess the season pass kept me from having a ski-less year (something I try to avoid). But tis admittedly tis an expensive way to maintain my “I am a skier” mantra, which helps me feel young.

Sorry that you did not get many ski days @Colorado_mom. We have only had 10 days on the pass this year, but that more than pays for the pass when the resorts we ski at charge $250 or more for a day. This is our 7th year on the Ikon pass (we did 1 year on Epic) and this is the fewest days we have skied in a season so far. The pass has been worth it for us.

Northern lower Michigan just got 2.5 feet of snow. S was ecstatic that his work was a bit slow this week, so he took a day off & drove through the snow to snowboard. He was there open to close today, and he said conditions were awesome. His spirits were definitely lifted!

We have gone to/shopped in/dined in those, but typically stayed in Breckenridge.

We ski Breckenridge and visit the town, but it’s too expensive to stay in for our ski budget!

Notice “stayed” (past tense)

My kids met in Denver to ski this year in November or December because S got a great deal on lodging and they had a nice time. They said that at the time the snow wasn’t great but it was still fun.

The reason we aren’t heading to ski anytime soon.

Oh, many times. My sister has a second home in Silverthorne.

Alas, my kids decided to go to Loveland (the town, not the ski hill) to go horseback riding instead of skiing. It’s going to be 85 degrees in Denver on Sat and probably 50 in the Mtns. NOT ideal skiing

After absolutely no snow at the base and only a few runs open, 17 inches of snow in the last two days. I wish I was there with them.
