This is a quiet thread!
Son got in this morning. No merit, but I think that’s typical for Skidmore?

Congrats! I thought Skidmore didn’t do merit/grants so I was shocked that my ds was award money as well. Is this something new?

Shame, but I’ll stay on the list!

Surprised as well. Less expansive then her Umass and Uconn awards but more than her instate UVM award.

I honestly thought Skidmore didn’t do merit aid. My son didn’t see any in the portal.
He has received top merit aid from every college that offers it so it’s surprising he didn’t get any. We didn’t apply for FA but that usually doesn’t matter

Copied from Skidmore’s Financial Aid FAQs page:
Skidmore offers two merit scholarships to prospective students.

  • Four Filene Music Scholarships are awarded after acceptance and performance competition to gifted first-year musicians who seek to further their musical studies in a liberal arts setting. Each scholar is awarded $20,000/year, $80,000 total.
  • Approximately 45 Porter/Wachenheim Presidential Scholarships are awarded after acceptance on the basis of superior scientific and mathematical accomplishment as apparent in your admission application. Each scholar is awarded $20,000/year, $80,000 total.

This. We visited a few weeks ago and this is what they said about merit. Limited to these very specific scholarships no “general” merit aid for overall strong academics.

Aah this makes sense! My kid is going into the humanities. We visited a year ago and I just remember thinking he wouldn’t get a merit scholarship from here.

Thank you for the info!

Congratulations from a fellow parent of a humanities student. We liked Skidmore a lot, and Saratoga Springs is such a great town.

In the financial aid notice under “out of pocket costs” it is just listed as Federal, State and Institutional grants/scholarships $48,576

My S25 was just awarded substantial grants from Skidmore, but I’m pretty sure they are financial aid (i.e. we will have to requalify every year) and not merit scholarships. He did not apply for or receive the music/science scholarships.
