Skinny jeans? Best choices for the "older" crowd

Getting ready to venture into the skinny jeans and boots trend. Have concerns that I am trying to dress like I’m 30 when on my next birthday I double that. I’m not overweight but do have that muffin top expansive middle that needs consideration. Any hints for style/store brand etc. Oh, I’m also cheap so jeans in the $100 plus price range will never leave the hanger. Thanks for advice from brave souls who have pulled this fashioin feat off successfully. These are for fun not work.

Look for Not Your Daughter’s Jeans…on sale someplace. They are designed for the “mature” body types, and are very flattering. I have boot cut and skinny jeans models, and all are very nice.

Yup, they are awesome! NYDJ is also really stretchy so they hold you in and are comfortable. Price is probably a little on the high side but I’ve found them for as little as 10 bucks at TJ Max. Of course, that’s really unusual and I’m a bargain shopping fanatic. But, with a sale they can be found well below 100.

I have J Jill skinny jeans. They’re not skin tight jeans but they give a lean look. I got mine on sale.

I have one pair of the J Jill…that’s enough to wear with my brown or black boots once in a while when it makes sense. I’m not a trend follower in general, but I do like to have one thing that is borderline trendy in my closet for those times when you just have to go with the flow and I’m in my mid-fifties.

I can’t wear nydj, they fit me weird.
Plus the petite are too short & reg too long.
I have some Jag jeans that I bought at Zappos that I love.

I just bought jeans at Black & White store, less than $30. I also got black velvet jeans for undr $40. I usually never buy there, but great sale. The jeans and pants are stretchy.

NYDJ do fit some people weirdly. They are really high-waisted but that doesn’t work on everyone. I like Levi’s.

NYDJ fit me a little weird too. I’ve had great luck with Banana Republic skinny jeans.
I think they run about $83 when not on sale, but there’s always a sale going on there.

I find they fit well in the hips and waist, without being skin tight or uncomfortable, and they’re a great color denim. They also don’t stretch too much when you wear them, which is a problem with other brands.

They also wash up well. I have two pairs and they’re my go-to favorites. Read the reviews online at BR and you’ll get tips for ordering sizes.

My “go to” brand of jeans is BandelinoBlue . They fit me perfectly every time. They are the only brand I don’t even bother trying on when I find them on sale. I have black ones that are not skinny jeans, but they are straight leg and not baggy at all. I can wear them with boots.

I was with my mom at Macy’s. She loves shopping at Macy’s with her coupons. Since I was there, I thought I would just try on their Style&Co tommy control modern boot to kill some time. I tried on their dark color ones and they fit me really well. The fabric was stretchy and they came in petite. The best part was after my mom’s coupon, those jeans were around $25. They fit me so well, I ordered two more pairs online. They look just as good as some more expensive jeans ($200+). They are also higher waisted so they do get me the tommy control I want. I am not as ready to pooh-pooh on Macy’s stuff as much now.

Macys has a larger petite section than many stores. Certainly larger than the Nordstroms in the same mall. My complaint is that they squeeze in so many racks, it is hard to see the clothes.

Neighbor lady is under 5’8" so the Black and White skinny’s are a great length for her. I have the Ann Taylor and love them. Don’t pay full price though as it seems like they have a 40% off sale every other day (if you sign up for the email alerts)

Old Navy has a few options, though you need to try them on and I suggest a long sweater over them as they are lower in waist than I am used to .

I personally think that the over 50 crowd doesn’t look great in skinny jeans but look just fine (assuming it works for that person’s body shape) in a more narrow leg jean (as in - not skin tight like I see on the college girls).

I hate shopping for jeans. I don’t like the high-rise Mom jeans, but after 4 kids I don’t have the washboard abs that some of the lower rise jeans require. Problems of the first world, I know. That said, this is what I did on a few of my jeans that fit well, but were too wide for the current style. I simply took in the side seam on my sewing machine. Worked great. Now I will say that you can not do this if both seams are flat-felt seams.

If anyone is game to try this, I’ll try to give a better explanation. Or you can google ‘how to make skinny jeans’ and you’ll find many tutorials. That’s where I stumbled on the idea. Saved me time shopping and more than a few bucks so I was very happy.

I just buy my jeans at Costco–often GV. They fit me well and are very reasonable. Sone are pretty stretch.

I like my jeans to end below my waist, which is how these fit. As I get older, I prefer my pants to feet more comfortably and NOT skin tight like teens.

I like Gap always skinny jeans. I have a pair of Jag Jeans that are nice and a little higher waisted. Honestly I also like ANA jeggings from JC Penneys, they are cheap and stretchy and comfortable.

Hey, I love my skinny jeans and although I don’t dress like my daughter, I’m rocking those skinny jeans and no one is going to tell me otherwise. :)

Black and white store? I’m not sure I know what that is?

It’s generally an upscale store and there is one in our mall (the mall that has more stores than anywhere else in our state). I’ve never purchased anything at the B&W store, but it does have some nice things. When there are sales, prices aren’t so high.

I find I try to buy most pants so I COULD do yoga comfortably in them, so I can be more comfortable but it isn’t too wrinkly/baggy. It works for me and haven’t gotten any groans from any family members so feel it looks fine. Jeggings and large tshirts are quite comfortable for yoga, I’m finding. ;)

Coldwater Creek has some that aren’t too clingy but work for me.
