Skipping Class

So I was wondering how much of an impact getting caught for skipping class is. Does it even go on your record or is it like a big deal. The punishment at our school is very minor, usually resulting in doing matinence work for however long you skip. I am a very good student but sometimes I just can’t stand being at school because of how much I hate my school. Its more for my mental health than anything else, but are the impications worth the rewards? I do it sparingly (1 class every 3 weeks or so) and I have vowed that once I get caught, I wont do it again. Do different schools look at it differently? Essentially, would getting caught skipping class be a breaking factor applying to schools like WashU, Brown, Berkeley, UVA?

yes, if you cut class you won’t get into college and you’ll become a bum on the streets.

op, PLEASE dont follow in my footsteps… I was accepted to HYPS, at the top of my class, with a 4.9 gpa, captain of the football team, and i helped cure diabetes. My life couldnt have been going better. But one day some of friends were skipping school and told me to. I didnt want to but i gave in to peer pressure. The school found out; my life was over. They called my parents and expelled me. In addition the school sent letters to HYPS suggesting that the revoke my admission because i skipped that day. Consequently, the colleges complied and i had no where to go. I am now 36 years old. I live in a shopping cart in central park. no food, no money, nothing to live for. All because i skipped that one day in high school…

Everyone does need a break every now and then but skipping class is a bad habit to get into. Even though you can get by with it academically in high school, you probably cannot get by with it academically in college. All schools have different policies for dealing with a student not following the rules, so be aware of what you school will do about it when you are caught. Hang in there, summer is almost here!

afro_ninja, you that dude that been stealin all my cardboxes?! That streetcorner: MY turf.

(Skipped a class in 7th grade. Now live on pigeons I catch with my bare deformed hands)

I take it with great offense the jabs you folks are making at homeless people. I am homeless myself and am going to high school. Only the insincere and hateful will find humor in making jokes about being homeless. You have no idea how hard it is. I have also been accepted into Harvard, and Lifetime for Women is making a movie called Homeless in Harvard about me.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338109/

SAP,

I can certainly sympathize, but I think the above posters were only joking and are probably as hardworking and sincere as you.

On a lighter note, congratulations for it is certainly one of the most monumental achievements.

afro_ninj4 that post was hilarious. The problem of homelessness worldwide requires seriousness and dutiful compassion/action from us all, yet levity offers a reliable source of sanity to humanity.

Lifetime made a movie about me too! It was an X-files like documentary trying to solve the puzzle of where the extra 100 in my 2500 SAT score came from. Stephen Hawkins is featured, speculating I might have inadvertently ruptured the time-space continuum with my powers of intellectual prowess. I am donating all proceeds to the Ivy Reject Veteran Support Group. This is all operated out of my carboard box HQ, of course.

Omigosh frrrph that is also hysterical. Funny, funny people tonight!

“op, PLEASE dont follow in my footsteps… I was accepted to HYPS, at the top of my class, with a 4.9 gpa, captain of the football team, and i helped cure diabetes.”

I stopped reading at diabetes…because diabetes isn’t cured.

definitely wish it was.

funny though.

it was actually just worth creating this thread just to see the reactions. and i obviously know that skipping class wont end your life, anyways, thanks. and azsxdc, homeless to harvard is already a movie… stop being guillible

Why can’t people just give a straight answer? Even though it may seem obvious to them, the poster must have had a reason for asking the question.

Anyway, why can’t you just explain to your parents that your feeling tired and have them excuse you? If the class is important you probably shouldn’t be skipping, and if the class is trivial your parents would probably understand.

SAP, that’s really interesting… especially considering I’ve heard Liz Murray speak (the person about whom the movie was made). And, oddly enough, she’s out of high school and out of Harvard. Please don’t impersonate her, because all you’re really doing is disgracing her. I appreciate you sticking up for homeless people, but don’t do it at someone else’s expense.

The next time you want to impersonate someone, at least do your research… if I had a movie being made about me, I certainly wouldn’t mess up the title. It’s “Homeless to Harvard,” and it’s not being made, it’s been done since 2003.

I know you meant it as a joke, but next time be a little more creative! :)

oh some kid at our school that skips class like 4 times a week got into harvard & yale, dont worry about it.

haha - i havent gone to ap chem for the past 2 weeks - i have more than 30 cuts on my record - i dont even try to hide it - when teachers ask me where i was i just say “sleeping” or “downtown” or “eating”

im also a stanford bound valedictorian

Why does it seem like you are bragging about skipping? If you are valedictorian, you should be setting an example for your peers. Show some respect for your teachers, don’t skip unless you have to.
