Ten degrees outside, thermostat is set at 68, slippers-yes! Robe in the morning-yes! I love to be cuddled up in my warm robe with slippers on. And I just realize why else I like slippers: when the dog comes inside with snow encrusted paws, my feet stay dry!
Haflinger makes the best slippers
Slippers: No. Barefoot or socks depending on season.
Robe: Yes. Wear it after shower while drinking coffee–I don’t like dressing until I feel I’ve totally dried off.
Slippers - have tried them, hate them all. I wear socks and sneakers in the house. I wear socks and sneakers all the time except at work or court when I wear flats that I carry with me or leave under my desk and when it’s horrid out and I have to wear boots. I change into my sneakers and socks as soon as I get home. I even put them on to go the bathroom in the middle of the night. In winter, I sleep with socks on. H and two of the boys walk around the house barefoot, the other 2 wear flip flops. I HATE flip flops, Tevas, Birkenstocks, etc. I have hideous feet and never allow them to be seen. I even wear water shoes in the shower.
I don’t wear robes, either. I used to have one but I got too fat for it and I won’t spend that kind of money again. I sleep in H’s 3X t-shirts.
During the week, it’s shower, dress and off to work. On the weekends, I will put on a bra if the boys are home or are expecting company.
I want a pair of deerskin moccasins like I had as a child.
ugg has me hooked. i wear their boots outside, and switch inside to their slippers. i rarely wear socks in the winter even though its super cold and snowy because of these products. they are sure “uggly” – but so worth it.
It’s way too hot here to wear slippers or a robe. Heck, it’s 84 degrees outside right now and it’s February. I’m in a sundress and sandals. Heck, I don’t even own many closed toe shoes and the few I do own are for traveling to cooler places.
“So to my non-robe people - do you dress immediately upon waking up or do you wander around in pajamas? Do you wear a bra? After you get out of the shower, what do you wear as you’re putting on makeup and doing your hair?”
Again, it’s hot and casual here. We look like we’re coming from or going to the beach most days. So yes, upon waking I wander around in PJs. No, I don’t wear a bra under PJs (sounds very uncomfy). After the shower, for the 5-10 minutes I’m brushing my teeth, putting sunscreen on and combing my hair so it can air dry, I usually am still wearing the towel wrapped around me.
Slippers, yes, yes, and yes! I own probably a dozen pairs! My favorites are Snoozies. My girls all have Ugg slippers…
Robe: No. I wear a Michigan tee-shirt to bed and in the AM until I step in the shower. Clothes go on after the shower, then makeup and hair. (I’ve replaced that tee-shirt probably fewer than ten times since ‘77.)
Slippers: I wear a pair of Croc-like ballet flats in the house (no shoes) that I throw in the wash every week.
Slippers? What are these things you call “slippers”? From where I’m from, we call them “bedroom shoes.”
Slippers or bedroom shoes - I’m a big “no.” For me it’s bare feet all the way.
Indoors: barefoot most of the year and fuzzy socks with treads (for both sleeping and lounging). Mostly wear nightgowns (flannel in winter, light cotton in summer), no robe.
Outdoors: sandals most of the year or Merrill-type slip-ons in colder (but-never-too-cold) SoCal winters.
No robe: I wake up in the morning and immediate get out of my nightgown and put on flannel pj pants (year round), a camisole or sports bra, and Tshirt.
Yes slippers: Have a pair of Woolrich felt ones I’ve had forever. Need a new pair. But I’ll also traipse around barefoot or in socks, depending on weather. The slippers really only come out if my feet are cold.
For all you who wear your outdoor shoes inside, that is such a foreign concept to me! In rural, mountainous Colorado, there is way too much snow, wet, mud, dirt tracked in the house to even consider it. I can’t think of any local family that allows shoes in the house (I mean, we’re not militant about it for guests - but even local plumbers, cable guys etc. know to take shoes off around here).
For some reason, I can’t stand the feeling of walking around in socks. In warm weather, I prefer bare feet in the house. In cold weather, I have Clark clog slippers that have a thick rubber sole, worn sometimes with socks, and sometimes with bare feet. They are mainly house shoes but if I have to run outside for a second to catch the kids in the morning before they leave for school, the soles are substantial enough to be worn outside if necessary. I’ve even been known to accidentally forget to switch to regular shoes when picking my youngest up from school.
@ChoatieMom I can’t help but assume the Michigan t-shirt is meant to attract your Wolverine-obsessed husband.
We had dogs up to three days ago so I would never walk around in the house without my shoes even if I didn’t despise my feet.
I once tried doing the take your shoes off when you come in the house thing for about a month, but I felt so awful doing it myself. I actually have people whose houses I no longer visit because I don’t want to take my shoes off. There are people I will visit in socks, but only those with carpet because I feel like hardwood is too slippery with socks on. I am just idiosyncratic this way.
Slippers or something equivalent: Yes, but only in the last 10 years or so. After a badly broken leg that did not heal perfectly, I am not as steady on my feet as I used to be. I don’t walk around in socks anymore because I don’t feel safe doing it. I’m afraid I’ll slip and fall. So I wear slippers or a pair of summer sandals that are easy to get on and off.
Robe: No, because my husband finds it objectionable. I sleep in clothes that could be mistaken for exercise clothes anyway, so it’s not a big issue. I can still get away with coming down and eating breakfast before taking a shower and getting dressed.
I detest going barefoot. In the cold months, all 9 of them, I wear slippers or clean sneakers in the house. In the warm months, it’s flip flops. When I go to other people’s houses, I bring indoor shoes to wear in their house, leaving my outdoor shoes by the door.
^^^ That’s what I do as well.
Slippers here. Haflinger scuffs are my favs and I keep them right by the door. My bathrobe is a big calf length wool chunky sweater that I love on cold winter mornings. I wear the slippers in the summer too in the house but not the big chunky wool “robe”.
My latest slippers are open toed and made by EMU. I love them. They were one of Oprah’s favorite things for Christmas.
Others have been Minnetonka and Eddie Bauer, shearling lined with no backs but closed toes.
My favorite winter robe is made by barefoot dreams. I had to have the sleeves hemmed, but I’ve had it for years and it looks brand new.
