Can anyone recommend small colleges in the Northeast that May not have a formal program like Marist, but have helpful student disability, academic support, accommodations offices? Thanks.
I think most will have formal accommodations and academic support offices, because having a clear system of evaluation (of disabilities) and accommodation makes it easier for a college to meet ADA requirements. Can you be more specific about the kinds of colleges you’re looking for (i.e., selectivity, academic strengths, student’s stats and interests, etc.)?
Thanks. Looking for schools that have a higher acceptance rate but somewhat selective gpas in the 3s. Small class sizes and engaged professors.,decent social scene but not dependent on frats. Full pay coming from
A rigorous private. Heard Middlebury has good learning support but too competitive to get in. Very easy going kid
I’d check out Wheaton -
I will think some more, but my initial thought is to look at some of the Colleges That Change Lives schools (ctcl.org). McDaniel has a reputation for being very supportive, but I bet other schools on that list do, too.
Wheaton and Merrimack. I have a co-worker that attended Merrimack recently. She was diagnosed with ADHD and LD in her senior year of high school and said she was feeling like a mess b/c she was unfamiliar with the terrain. She said the office for student disability was amazing, were great advocates for her and she still was in touch with director of the program. I have heard great things overall about their support for LD and ADHD. My son wants a school with big sports and in a city- but it breaks my heart b/c I think these schools would be such a great fit for him.
A lot of schools have learning support offices and accommodations like early registration, small test setting and extended time (on tests). What stats? Skidmore, Colby, Hamilton, Stonehill? Not northeast, but look at Marshall University in WV
This site, which places Middlebury first, may be of interest:
St. Lawrence
St Michaels? Fairfield is bigger but seems to do a good job with accommodations.
The recommendations here include schools that are extremely difficult to get admitted to as well as ones that have higher acceptance rates. Can you elaborated on which kind of student you have?
I think we need a fuller picture of GPA, SAT/ACT score (or going TO), intended major, and ECs.
But based on info available, I agree with the names on the list so far and would add Clark University in Worcester Mass. I’m not sure about accommodations at St. Michaels, but they have shown love to 3.0-3.4 students in the past.
Seconding Clark and St Michael’s.
Adding Susquehanna and Elizabethtown, both in Pennsylvania.
Seconding McDaniels and Clark. Adding two publics, St. Mary’s College in Maryland (rural on the water, you can borrow paddle boards and kayaks and learn to sail) and Mary Washington (just outside the DC area in small city with lots of history) in Va.
Thanks, probably higher acceptance rate- so schools like colby, Hamilton, Bates , trinity and probably skidmore , Conn College are likely out. Wondering about schools like st Lawrence, Hobart, Dickinson, Gettysburg. Bitvrrslly looking for a nice LAC that is supportive and has a nice campus community. moved from overseas from a different curriculum. Now that child has adjusted, doing much better at a rigorous private so upward projection will be seen. Now pondering if an easier school would have been better to get higher grades, but hopefully colleges know the differences. GPA should end up between 3.0 to 3.3. not sure about TO. Will prep this summer and take once then decide. Does have decent ecs. And will be full pay.
Dickinson, Gettysburg, St Lawrence, Wheaton MA are reachable reaches for 3-3.3 with rigor (especially if solid scores - 1250+ which from a private school is reachable too).
Gettysburg is indeed the “Greekest” if that matters.
Clark, Susquehanna, Hobart&WS, St Mary’s MD, Ursinus would be good matches.
McDaniel, Mary Washington, St Michael’s, Merrimack, Elizabethtown would be low matches to safeties depending on test scores.
