SNL 50 year anniversary show…tonight!

I am really enjoying this program!

Found the show to be hit and miss overall – but I’m always happy to see Sir Paul perform.

I was really bummed there wasn’t a Stefon cameo on Weekend Update. I like that character much more than drunk uncle.

Bill Hader was invited but did not attend.

Any idea why not? Is there bad blood?

“Politely declined” due to a “longstanding scheduling conflict.”

The above are quotations, not air quotes. That’ll the extent of the detail.

I sure hope I can catch the last part someplace today.

I thought it was fun.

Edit - wrong info

There were a few missing I was wondering about, like Dan Aykroyd. Found this online:

My understanding is that he suffered from terrible anxiety the whole time he was on SNL, and he chooses not to put himself back in that situation.

Thought it was fun, but the sketches, as often on SNL were hit or miss. The first sketch was IMHO, weirdly unfunny. Not sure if it was a throwback to a similar earlier sketch. If so, was one I had not seen.

I thought the montage of all the questionable past skits was pretty enlightening. Paul Simon and Paul McCartney were both great to see.

The music concert is worth watching if you can stream it.

I thought Meryl Streep was great. It was fun to see her with Kate McKinnon

The only sketch that fell flat for me was the final one, Scared Straight. It provided laughs, but the whole premise was just pushing boundaries without regard to being a funny sketch. I appreciated the understated humor of the cemetery scene, especially following Scared Straight. But that’s SNL … they try stuff, it doesn’t always work, and people don’t always agree on whether it was funny. I like that!

I actually liked Scared Straight. Also Black Jeopardy .
I loved Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter, and Paul McCartney. The song i was disappointed by was “Nothing Compares to You.” by Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard(both of whom I like).
Nothing compares to Sinead O’Connor.

Black Jeopardy cracked me up.

I loved Miley and Brittany’s rendition.

How wonderful that the anniversary special sparked different reactions for different people. That’s the beauty of SNL.

That’s understandable to me. It must be difficult since so much of his SNL time was linked with John Belushi

He was at the 40th though. One article said he is dealing with health issues but who knows. He was missed.

I loved weekend update. Always do, and almost always have!

Amy and Tina were terrific as expected by me.

I thought Steve Martin missed the signature line “Live From NY, it’s Saturday Night Live”. Why wasn’t that there!

Enjoyed most of it, but there were a few ho-hum sketches in the mix. Understandable, given the need to balance so many personalities and a 3+ hour show. Some segments brought me to tears - Paul Simon & Paul McCartney, particularly. I really appreciated Paul Simon’s performance with Sabrina Carpenter given his problems with hearing loss.

It would have cost $82 for us to add the streaming to the services we currently have, so I’m hoping to catch clips on youtube or something now. Sounds like it was a great show!
