Well, I’m hoping this is the last thread on snafu snow!
I’m flying to Ohio tomorrow…or at least I want to. I’m flying Southwest from Hartford to Baltimore to Cleveland…and it’s not looking good. Flight before mine out of Hartford…cancelled. Flight out of Baltimore before mine…cancelled. I think it’s just a matter of time before mine gets cancelled too.
Hoping others who are traveling are having better luck.
Good luck with your flight. My DH was in TX this morning trying to get home. AA cancelled all their flights that would be snowed in tomorrow even though they could easily get here today… He is on another flight, but I’m afraid he’s going to get stuck in NYC tonight since the new flight routed through there. Sigh.
I’m flying out of Indianapolis in the morning, and I suspect I will be fine. However, my husband is flying into Memphis at midnight, and out about three hours later. I suspect he will be stuck in Memphis for several hours, as they have a big problem doing adequate deicing there, and it can get really ugly. Poor guy, he’s going to be so tired.
Sick sick sick of this. DH and I just spent a collective three hours shoveling slush and ice from the driveway and front path so it doesn’t freeze up overnight. S now we’re all ready for the rain tonight, switching to snow until early afternoon tomorrow.
I couldn’t believe when I saw that DC is expecting 5-8", which may be why you’ll have trouble tomorrow flying in and out of Baltimore, thumper. S2 lives in DC and with that much snow, he won’t be going to work.
We decided to wait to visit S1 in CA until May so we’d avoid these weather delays and cancellations, but I hate planning my life around weather possibilities.
I’m ready for spring. At least we change the clocks this weekend. Maybe that’ll be a good omen.
I’m in the DC area. Hubby has a big important meeting tomorrow that I assume will cancel. Once again I’ll have to close my company for the day - though I still have to continue paying everyone. I know, I’m the scrooge that thinks about how much money I spend to pay people to stay home. I don’t mind it once, but after awhile it gets tiresome, especially in these parts 1 inch of snow puts everyone in a tizzy.
Okay, at least this is working for someone. My husband, who was expecting to work up to a 16 hour all nighter (very painful, at our age), has had his flights cancelled. One day more in a hotel, one day more to sleep, maybe even a beer or two. Bad weather bringing the simple pleasures back.
We are missing this one but I hope for everyone’s sake this is the last one. I shoveled the ice turned slush under the overhang over the deck this afternoon. Poor big dog has been slipping on it for weeks now.
I checked the ten day forecast - warming up again after tomorrow and in the 40’s all next week. Going to be a lot of melting.
We are supposed to get 6-10 inches where we live. A lot of what we did have is melted now, for what that was worth. My garage floor is so dirty that I have to take off whatever footwear I am wearing any given day before I leave the hallway…my dogs love to come into the garage with me when it’s time to eat but they just bring the dirt in with them too…It hasn’t dried up enough in weeks so that I can sweep it up.
Besides the mess and inconvenience, it really impacts our business too…we have had to cut hours for employees because there just isn’t enough revenue coming in…and it is hard to pay other bills too. I miss that winter we had a few years ago when it was unusually warm
Thumper, I live near BWI. Most of the snow is supposed to fall before 2:30 last I heard. I figure DH will be home again since I’m sure the government will close again.
It’s weather like this that makes me love my job – in which I work from home. The only time I’m inconvenienced is if we lose power, which thankfully doesn’t happen very often.
I was thinking today too how gross the garage and the inside AND outside of the car is. I too was out a bit ago trying to hack some of the ice off the front porch (for the mailman) and to try and push some of the water/ice chunks at the base of both ends of the circular drive out into the road a bit. That wasn’t very successful.
Best of luck everyone with flights. So stressful and annoying.
Thanks Cap. My flight is supposed to arrive at BWI at 2:30. Next flight departs at 5:30. Neither has been cancelled…yet. I figure by morning, I’ll know.
I would be sad not to go, but it’s not an essential trip. If I can’t rebook for Friday, I’ll stay home…and they can credit my credit card.
We had snow on Orange County, California beaches this week! First time in my lifetime (that I can recall at least). I blame @teriwtt since I believe she may be in Laguna Beach to escape the snow in her hometown (if I recall correctly from the travel-planning thread).
My car got stuck pulling into the driveway so I had to snowblow and shovel just to clear a path for it. Tomorrow the temp will be only 10 degrees so the slush will harden. Our back door has been frozen shut for a month and our deck has almost three feet of snow on it. I want to ski but the snow is too high.
The one good choice I made was buying a black mailbox. The plows have completely covered it up with snow this week, and all you see is a black piece of metal poking out of dirty white snow.
