Snow Dwellers - Is A White Christmas On Your Wish List?

I will speak on behalf of one beloved family member…

Sort of. I prefer sun in the city so that getting around is easy but snow in the mountains for recreation. We have ski and snowshoe plans this weekend and snow is in the forecast. Hopefully, the weatherman is right this time!

If they had a CDL last year, they could have made a lot of money in Massachusetts.

I am firmly in the no snow camp (a dusting is OK but that’s about it)) – it just makes travel more difficult/dangerous.

That might tempt me to get a cdl! Ha. But I don’t think you’d get too many takers from my area. They are firmly southerners. I’m the Yankee from nova. But I think our drivers make more like $15-20/hour for their regular jobs.

But we are also having a very hard time hiring anyone. Passing drug tests is very hard. And having them show up once hired. But that is another thread

To bring it back - I like the snow! But I feel bad when my coworkers have to work and I don’t. Or I do, but just my regular in office shift. Not overnight

Oldest son and family are in MN for Christmas and his MIL says it will be a “brown” one this year.

Our dog loves it. But, it limits hiking. So, either way.

No snow here this year and I’m quite happy….with snow comes ice and as an avid outdoor walker/runner I don’t mind cold at all but no snow/ice. I could get used to Christmas in a warm climate. I’d love an outdoor Christmas dinner.

I was so excited to move from Texas to Maine for the snow. My husband grew up in Wisconsin and warned me they measured snow in feet, not quarter inches, up here. So I was disappointed when we moved here in late November, 1986,and it didn’t snow every day, ha. Although the very first night we were here, it did snow.

37 years later, I still love snow and wish we got more. We had snow on the ground a couple of weeks ago but it’s all gone. Then we had extensive flooding this week, ugh. Yes, I want a white Christmas, but we’re not getting it this year.

We do hire a guy to plow our driveway, but there is still lots of shoveling to do. I enjoy it. Great exercise in a beautiful setting.

Just as long as the power and cable stays on, right?!

Well, it was rain and wind that knocked everything out this week. I would have been happier if it had been snow that did that!

Yeah I know. We lose power all the time when nothing is happening. If a storm comes through, you just brace yourself for losing power. So that does ruin some of the fun for us - but we don’t get it often and even less often the last several years now. Our snow also always comes with ice too which is another animal

I don’t need snow for Christmas to create the mood or the feeling. I’m fine with snow. I grew up in the upper Midwest and now live in Massachusetts–just outside of Rt. 495–an area that typically gets heavier snowfall than towns closer to the ocean. When we built our house 20 years ago, we put in a heated driveway and a heated walkway in front of the house. It’s the best thing we did! The only thing we have to do is shovel the top of the driveway after the snowplow comes down the road and we often don’t have to do. It just depends on how much snow falls.

Smart!

Iowa- We will have 50s and rain. I’m happy no snow mainly because DD’19 is traveling 4.5 hours here on Christmas Eve so I don’t have to be concerned with bad roads. It will be kind of yuck getting 1-2" of rain for Christmas but we need it badly. (We’ll see if it happens- we’ve been promised lots of rains that never delivered.)

I don’t mind some snow, if no one is travelling.

My parents did that in Northern Illinois. (the house they built after we were all grown and out of the house).

I no longer live in snow country but I am travelling there. Of course, just our luck, the snow is forecast for our travel day! Hope our flights are all on time and the roads are clear.

I’m in northern Indiana. I do like a little snow on Christmas Day. That’s enough for the winter. If we aren’t going to get that, I’m totally fine with 50+ degrees. A couple of years ago it was 60. We sent the grandkids out with 30 cans of Silly String. They had a blast and the adults had a very peaceful visit.

I find myself in an usual situation here - disagreeing with @ChoatieMom !!

For me, Christmas is all about summer. Hopefully good sunny weather (not 40oC please). Picnics, beach, winding down from a crazy year with warm, lazy, long days.

Once did a winter Christmas, while it didn’t snow, I hated the cold and dark days. Definitely not to my taste.

My friend in South Africa messaged me today that it is very hot there. I visited him one year in November when kids were getting out for summer vacation. So odd!
