I love to see snow this time of year. White Christmas. No work or school to worry about. But, we’re supposed to travel to my in-laws for an annual Christmas party (food fest) and we’ll be driving smack into the snow. We live in north-ish CT and traveling 684 to 287 to NJ. Has anyone heard about what to expect? My sister’s friend said she got a phone-alert message from the town, warning of “possible white-outs”. Has anyone heard of this?

We’re in Morris county (northern) Nj.
So far, I am hearing snow starting around 6am tomorrow and going through into Monday with about 12-15 inches.

Hoping that DS heading back to CT for school will wait it out till Tuesday-ish.

Yep. looks like we’re heading straight into the snow. I hadn’t heard 12-15 inches.

My D1 is traveling back to NYC, from upstate NY, tomorrow by bus. I am concerned. I hear there is a blizzard warning, with yes, 12-15 inches predicted.

She said she has to be at work by 4:30 am Monday. I was thinking she needed to take a very early bus tomorrow to avoid the worst snow and be able to get to bed early.

But now I am more concerned, given what musicmom said. Is this really suppose to hit NYC area early tomorrow?

I know the Passaic county area is under a blizzard warning for 11-16" of snow. We are a bit north and west (a usual snow belt in the area) and “only” have a winter storm warning with 8-12"" predicted. Sounds like the high winds will be a very big factor. Be careful, you may want to reconsider that trip unless you can stay overnight.

We were suppose to fly out of EWR to go home on Mon morning, Continental was offering change of flight for free, so I changed it to Tue morning instead. Within hours, the Tue flight was full. I figured better be safe than sorry, I would rather sit in my parents house than at EWR.

limabeans…we’re in northern CT also. Looks like the track of the storm shifted in a bit overnight, this morning channel 3’s calling for 10-20" for most of the state (last night, the southeast corner had the worst forecast - not any more…)

S works in the kitchen of a local nursing home and has a shift tonight from 430 to 730. Right during the predicted “worst” of it. I guess H will drive him in the 4wd.

My brother who lives in NYC is joking that he never would thought he would say that he traveled to Michigan to avoid a blizzard in NYC.
Usually the travel fear is the other way around!!!

Check to see…we have friends who were supposed to travel by bus to Philly from CT today. They got an email saying the bus was cancelled.

It’s been snowing continously in NYC for the last 2.5 hrs — probably only a few inches on the ground but very windy with very low visibility. Lots of flights, trains and buses are already canceled because of visibility, so I would check that the flight/train/bus is actually going before you head there and maybe even wait until your kid is on board/has taken off so that they don’t end up stranded and needing a ride back home. Buses out of Philly were packed this morning by 8-9 am people needing to work tomorrow were trying to travel back in advance of the storm.

Morris County NJ now in midst of whiteout, high winds.

Our mayor arranged to open our public parking decks in town to town residents.
Wonderful for our family as we can get DS’s car off the street. Our driveway only holds two cars and with him home, one ends up plowed in at the curb.
He’s off to drop his car at deck and will take pics with his new Christmas camera on walk back home. Silver lining young man!

They announced just before the Buffalo/New England game that the Eagles game in Philly tonight has been postponed til Tuesday. I have a few family members who were planning on attending that game who are very disappointed.

Upgraded to blizzard warning in ct/ri/mass…

I’m bummed about the game too. They could play that game. heck, they could move it back to its original time this afternoon. They moved once and now they moved it again because of the weather and getting TO and FROM the game, but what good is it if they can’t make it TO the game 2 days later?

Fendergirl, is it as bad in Philly as they have been predicting? Am concerned as my daughter is working (just outside Philly) until 8 tonight, and she does NOT have a 4wd :(

I live about 45 miles from Philly and it just started snowing here about an hour or two ago. The roads outside my house are covered in snow. I haven’t been out to drive on them but if she has good tires she should be okay. Who knows how it will be at 8 PM though. Where is she driving from? you can PM me if you want…

Our 11:20am flight today from PHL to Detroit was canceled last night (!), well before snow started falling anywhere in the NE. Hope they were right, because my kids are incredibly disappointed that the annual trip to MI to visit the grandparents and cousins almost didn’t happen. Yes, I agree, better to be at home than stuck in the Philadelphia airport between flights. We were able to rebook for Tuesday, but kept our return flight on Friday as both kids have New Year’s Eve plans.

The now is pretty here in CT so far…

Lots of us from CT watching this storm. We are in northern Litchfield county where the forecast is for up to 2 feet of snow…and winds. Thank goodness we really had nowhere to go today!!

I went shopping with kids this morning, luckily I have rented a SUV, on the way back to my parents house, there were already 2 major accidents on a highway. The shopping trip was well worth it, 50% off on all sale items at all department stores(NM, Saks…). We have about 2" now in NJ.
