Snow in the forecast

D1 is on a bus to NYC. Suppose to have arrived half an hour ago. She says they still have at least an hour or so.

Then she has to get to her apartment. It’s less than a mile but still a walk. I’m sure there will be no cabs.

Ugh. I want her to be at her home. And, she has to be at her work at 4:30 am tomorrow!

We have about 5 inches or so now…and it’s windy…and still snowing. The weather talking heads say the big part of this snowfall hasn’ happened yet. Stay tuned.

To the poster above…maybe your kiddo’s place of employment won’t be open at 4:30 tomorrow morning (unless it’s a hospital…). Lots of places have closed for the morning tomorrow in this neck of the woods already and the Governors of at least three states have asked that folks stay home until the snow ends unless absolutely necessary.

Just talked to D. Her bus is well over an hour past its arrival time and she is saying they have at least another 45 minutes.

^^ My D works in finance. The reason she has to be in tomorrow at 4:30 has to do with something in markets because it is a holiday in Great Britain tomorrow. IDK She works in trading. NYC snow doesn’t matter in the world of finance, at least in her area.

Steady snow in NYC right now and some thunder-snow as well; there definitely won’t be many cabs available. And yes, most of the i-banks will be business as usual tomorrow.

D just texted and said she thinks they are close–only two plus hours late. Still not home.

my son’s flight back to nyc was cancelled earlier today. he went straight to our little local airport and had them work out the best deal they could find–he will now fly out of another airport on tuesday morning to philadelphia and then take a bus to nyc. i guess his christmas vacation is now two days longer.

Not so DS2 after doing his shoveling shift reports: “THIS IS STUPID!” This is after nsDS1 shoveled everything just 2 hours before. 12 to 14 inches so far and still coming down hard. Much wind. Union county, NJ.

It’s called a blizzard.

D just reported she is in her apt. Hooray! 3 hours past due but at least home safe.

Yay for kids getting home safely, no matter how late.

toblin - shoveling shifts? We wait till the snow stops and shovel once. (It’s just gonna blow back over with this blizzard anyway.)

Once again we didn’t have a white Christmas here in San Diego - for the ten thousandth year in a row.

Wow…just looked out the window and there is about 2 feet of snow…beautiful!

18"-24" in NYC!! Love it! But then, I don’t have to leave the house today. NYC is pretty much shut down at the moment.

We are watching the same news!! People are stranded on buses, trains and in their cars for the last 7+ hours.

The news is telling everyone to is just stay home.

D asked me if I feel shortchanged because the city is shut down and I already have the week off from work?

No…

Be careful, be warm, be safe <3

Monday am in Morris County NJ.
WINDY and blowing snow. Yup, a blizzard.

Morrismm- happy that your D is home safe! It doesn’t matter to me how old our ‘kids’ get…moms (and Dads) will always worry a bit in these situations.
Now if I can just convince son that he does NOT have to leave for school in CT today as planned…tomorrow will be so much easier and safer. Work and school don’t start till next week so maybe he will see reason.

Reporting in from South Jersey (10 miles from coast)-howling winds, scary wind chills out there ,and about 20 inches of snow!

D is home with us, but should be working in Philly today. She is hoping to get to train later today, but that means get out of driveway first. Not happening for awhile.

So, we didn’t even try to travel to the annual outing and it was a very good thing. We ended up with 24 +/- inches. My kids shoveled our long driveway last night, and you’d never know. The worst was losing power for about 6 hours overnight. Luckily, we have a generator, but the house is still quite cold. All NYC airports are closed until 4pm today. Yikes, it was pretty bad and the 50 mph wind made it so much worse.

The snow here is so dry and drifted…I have no idea how much actually fell! Some spots in the yard are bare, others have 2" drifts…but it sure is pretty! (and windy!)

We have about 15 inches here in the NW corner of CT…windy and drifty but I don’t think we hit the two foot mark at all. The sun just popped out and it’s beautiful. Time to clear the driveway.

Ahhh, another year of watching others on TV try to deal with what we are used to  Not a flake past the usual daily lake effect to be had in Rachacha…

The New England Patriots were stranded here last night - since the World Junior tournament was in Buffalo there were no hotel rooms there so they were bused here. One of the players called Rochester “garbage time” - add that to the list of reasons why I despise that team… I think they did get a flight out this morning so good riddance.

Hope everyone traveling gets through the storm safe…

Rachacha, I will be more than happy to see my favorite NFL team get home safely!

GO PATS! :D
