Snow storm? Really?

So…is there really going to be a huge snowstorm in the mid Atlantic states that also trickles into southern New England on Saturday!

Really??

For your sake, if that’s where you are, I hope not. Here in the Midwest, we had a heat wave today: it got up to 14 degrees. Sigh.

I’ve been following this a bit. I’m going to be right in the middle of it, supposedly, flying in and out. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Will it hit, will they plan for it, or will it be a miss?

I’m hoping it skips the DC,MD, VA area.

Praying we end up too far south but the direction they are predicting makes it one of the kind we always dread. : /

How much is there where you are, thumper?

We’ve had almost nothing here in lower Michigan this year- which is strange. My parents in northern Michigan (not the UP) have about 4 feet and they’re supposed to get another foot either tomorrow or the next day (can’t remember).

Here’s hoping it’s not as bad as they’re projecting.

ETA: ACK! I completely misread the OP. I thought you said it was supposed to hit New England and trickle down into the southern states- not the other way around! :frowning:

Rockies need more snow.

How nice would it me if the roads were heated so that the snow just melts so we don’t have slippery conditions. Over here if the weatherman mentions the word snow everyone runs to the grocery store for milk, bread, eggs, and toilet paper. All the kids then start praying for schools to close. I dread driving in snow because my car is the first to get stuck in it.

Flying into Boston on Friday and out on Monday evening. Thinking I should be OK as it is not supposed to start until Friday night. Dreaming of those warm summer days!

They seem to have epic misses on their predictions sometimes. I haven’t heard much about it hitting too far south, but the intellicast forecast for Richmond seems to be a lot of snow on Friday and Saturday. Who knows how far south it could extend?

DH flies to Tampa on Thursday for a conference, and then to Newark on Saturday en route to a week-long meeting in Frankfurt. He changed his flights this afternoon so he connects in Atlanta instead and flies Lufthansa, and avoids the whole mess (or so he hopes).

Meanwhile, S2 and I are in DC and he will be shoveling the driveway. He wants to see the Caps/Penguins game on Sunday and figures we might be able to score cheap tickets because of the snow. That assumes Metro is running! We’ll see how many chores he gets done without nagging in the meantime before I commit to anything.

That sounds like a really smart change that your husband did, CountingDown. No telling what will happen, but with the information he has right now, seems like a really good idea.

Good luck scoring the cheap tickets!

We have a loved one scheduled to fly out of DC on Saturday–hope the storm is after he leaves and not when he’s in the air.

Busdriver, he works for the gov’t, and they have contracted rates with various carriers, depending on the route. He is an expert at finding good fares and itineraries that work for him and save his agency $$.

We just changed our flight to come in to dc Thursday night instead of Friday midday.

@raclut DC/MD/VA is projected to be the epicenter of snowfall for this storm. We’re talking 2 ft or more here. I’m glad I don’t have to work Friday. Just hope my power stays on. My son will get his first Boston snow storm this school year.

S is scheduled to fly back to college on Saturday (NY to ME). His college sent an email yesterday announcing they will open the dorms a day early for those who want to come back on Friday instead. Yesterday the airline wanted basically the cost of another airline ticket to make any change, but said they might be making offers today or tomorrow, as they knew more about the storm. I refuse to pay for his airplane ticket a second time, so we’re waiting to see if there are any price reductions, and tracking the storm. Worst cast scenario is he’ll be late back to school, and he won’t be the only one!

@college_query Same with my sister. She is scheduled to fly from Dulles to Honolulu on Saturday morning. They only offered her a chance to buy another ticket, but told her to call back 24-48 hours in advance to see if there is a “no cost” alternative.

I’ll probably just do my normal weekly shopping trip on Thursday instead of Saturday. It will be a good weekend to stay in and work on our taxes!

Kiddo is in DC, told her to stock up on supplies as she may be stuck in dorms for a few days.
