Snow storm? Really?

@VeryHappy and @thumper1 - what are you hearing about New Haven?

D2 is already in Stamford, hunkered down in a motel, still hoping they’ll get into NYC tomorrow afternoon for a show. She says now 6".

But turns out D1 needs to take her bf down to Yale for auditions tomorrow am (and the official/email word is, they never cancel.) Right now, she just booked a room there, thinking they can somehow get through RI and make it to New Haven-??? Any word on 95? Thx.

@lookingforward - 95 in RI and MA is fine right now, but they should leave soon if they need to be there early tomorrow. The snow is supposed to stop around midnight, so my guess is that 95 will be passable by mid morning tomorrow? I would leave now - it’s really not doing much here yet.

@lookingforward, my cousin is right outside New Haven and told me this morning they are under the blizzard warning. Your D should not be driving down there today at all.

I haven’t heard anything specific about New Haven, except it’s in the “blizzard warning” area like I am. I absolutely anticipate that I95 will be fine by tomorrow AM. @lookingforward, have your D keep an eye on the internet and the CT DOT updates.

@lookingforward any chance they can take the train instead of driving?

@lookingforward this is a link to traffic cams, click on 1-95 http://wtnh.com/traffic/traffic-cams/

Looks like metro north and amtrak are operating on a weekend schedule. Can they take the train instead of driving?

Thanks and if you hear more, please let me know. I don’t know what they’ll decide. As of right now, they can’t leave before 3pm and I just asked her to see if they could move that up.

He’s supposed to be there by 9am but they say as long as he gets there during whatever hours they run auditions, they’ll fit him in.

This whole thing is verruckt. I just told her to check CT DOT, great tip, thanks.

I have cousins in Atlantic City and one is reporting flooding in Margate City. Another got 8 - 10" of snow already. Double trouble for that area.

@lje62, @SouthJerseyChessMom, just saw a video from a friend in Stone Harbor. 3rd Avenue is a river. Water near shops on 96th street was over knee high, the benches in town almost completely submerged, water 2/3 covering parking meters. Just awful. Friend’s house is dry as of an hour ago, but high tide coming 8:30 tonight…

We have flurries!

@lookingforward keep an eye out for CT closings. Last snow storm, the governor actually closed the highways for a while (last winter) for safety, and so they could be cleared. If that happens again…Yale will also change their auditions.

Here’s someone who is totally embracing the snow! https://www.facebook.com/nationalzoo/videos/10153837445042902/?fref=nf

Still no snow here in central CT, but the wind has just picked up. The radar shows we’ve been getting snow for hours, but the air is so dry, it’s taking awhile for the atmosphere to saturate so that it actually snows at ground level.

I saw the CT DOT 95 cams and there’s little traffic. Looks sloggy, though I’m sure the road surface risks freezing. The train is iffy with Amtrak warning they can cancel at will. (If they cancel an afternoon run, will they also cancel the last one out?) She’s now thinking of leaving at 5am, which does sound better, assuming they sand 95 overnight. She wants me to make this decision, ha. Thx.

If he’s coming from RI and needs to be in New Haven by 9:00-ish tomorrow AM, he could leave tomorrow at 7:00 AM and still make it in plenty of time. And I anticipate that by 7:00 AM, the conditions on I95 will be excellent.

ETA: If she’s coming from the Boston area, leaving at 5:00 AM should be fine too. Boston is not supposed to get a lot of snow.

Weather Channel has been reporting from Stone Harbor all morning.
20.5" in MontCo near Gaithersburg. Still coming down, and 3-5" more expected before it ends. We still have power and heat.

We have about 25 inches so far here in NoVA. It’s still coming down.

Here on the South Shore of LI we have about 9 inches and coming down pretty steadiily although maybe mixed with sleet. Started flurrying around 10 PM last night, woke up around 7:30 this morning and was almost total white-out conditions.
Just heard Mayor De Blasio’s press conference and he said that this could end up being one of the worst storms in NYC history although hard to believe it will top 1996 two day event or the back to back storms in 1978 or so many others but it is still early in the day and expected snow totals now are greater than what was forecast originally

@gosmom …I just saw that video too ! it looks awful there. The worse I have seen yet. Nothing coming out of Avalon yet , other than what I have seen from my friend. Cape May County really took a pounding and it isn’t over yet
