Duquesne basketball and gymnastics teams and 6 bus loads of catholic college students from Nebraska are stranded on PA turnpike.
So… for those of you who are snowed in, I highly recommend looking at the National Zoo’s twitter. Can’t link here but google it and you will not be disappointed.
The pandas are especially appreciative of this weather
It’s a mental issue.
^^^ So is Temple’s gymnastics team–for over 14 hours. I’m not sure why they didn’t cancel/reschedule! It’s not like this was a surprise.
now in NYC suburbs we are expecting 18-24" – looks like over a foot already!! Wonder if schools will be open on Monday. A lot to clean up - travel ban though currently in effect here & NYC.
Thanks, romani. The pandas always put a smile on my face.
It should clear in New Haven by the middle of the night. At this point, I forget if it’s 2 or 3 am. Or even if all the sites agree on that. A little chaser snow may appear, but briefly. But that’s just what’s coming from above and blowing around, mcat, not the mess that remains, whether road surfaces are good, local streets are cleared beyond just one lane, whether people/businesses shovel their walks or the store parking lots are fully plowed, etc. Plus the psychology of being limited. It’s no wonder people up here really celebrate the first decent days in spring, more than fall.
Also saw the pandas. Cute.
I just heard another 3 to 6 more inches. I’m not about to open the door to measure. The winds is blowing everything all over anyway. The plows have been through our neighborhood quite a few times. We have a vip in the hood so we always get plowed out first.
Exactly. Extremely poor judgment on someone’s part!
SE Mass here but not on the coast. We’ve got a couple of inches and it’s starting to blow harder now. Dogs have been out to run around so maybe the puppy will rest for a while - she just wants to keep going out to play in the snow!
Friends are in NYC and had tickets to Hamilton this afternoon. All shoes today were cancelled an hour before the show was to open. They’re not happy!! Two of DDs friends headed back to school in PA yesterday and got as far as NJ to pick up a roommate. They stayed there for the night and I’m so glad they did when I heard of all the people stranded on the turnpike. At least they’re safe with parents and won’t leave until it’s safe to do so.
It’s not looking good in NYC. My building’s plow is not keeping up with the snow fall. A police car was stuck in the snow, watched 8 guys pushing it out. I just finished a tray of chocolate and I don’t even like chocolate.
OK, it can stop now.
I took a nap.
We played Trivial Pursuit.
It’s not quite time for wine.
Well, maybe for whine.
21" here now in MD (DC burbs). Have seen one car today, no plows. Am busy quilting and sending S2 out to measure the snow. The wind is picking up again. My dad called to say there was snow in Augusta (GA) and everything shut down.
Enjoying the snowy weather while blasting the following tune on my stereo to the amusement of neighbors…especially their kids who love the snow and the song:
The visibility in the VA/DC area is very poor. It is still snowing and looks like whiteout conditions.
Hello from northern Connecticut! Where Jonas is the one-flake-wonder! Absolutely nothing. Nada. Zilch. I’m strangely disappointed.
D sent me some pics from Baltimore city. Apparently she and her friends found a place for “post shoveling bottomless mimosas”. Sounds like they’re doing fine…
@cobrat - that’s my favorite winter song! Let it play – but with around 15" here I am not encouraging more snow - our dog can’t truly enjoy playing it - too deep. Almost time for wine & a movie!!!
Our forecasters blew it here, no snow, just a dusting. We were supposed to get 2-4 inches.
@lookingforward – this may have been mentioned already, but Metro North (our commuter rail here in CT) announced a 4pm shutdown a couple of hours ago, so that will affect your child’s ability to get into NYC to see a show. http://alert.mta.info
I wouldn’t head into Manhattan unless she has a place to stay.
I have also seen Patch emails about accidents on 95 here in SW CT. A bus down in Greenwich skidded and took out a utility pole earlier this morning. I don’t know what conditions are like further up 95, but we see plenty of accidents even during dry conditions, so I would advise against driving down to New Haven.
Just got word from my daughter that she made it home to Brooklyn from her job in the West Village. Whew!
