DH and I decided to “bag” the shoveling for today since we don’t have to be anywhere. DS3’s job called and told him not to come in for his shift at 4 p.m. since they were closing at 2. Got an email from a local fancy jeweler that they wouldn’t be opening today. Thank goodness! Now I don’t have to worry about DH rushing out to spend 10K on diamonds for me. /sarcasm/

@cobrat, Thanks. We have never been living in NE; we tend to become very paranoid whenever we heard of any winter storm in that area. We are therefore interested in any public transportation which could be safer than driving a car. I think the train could be safer than the bus in a weather like this.
In Pennsylvania we have 30 inches and it is snowing and blowing like I have never seen. We have maintained our power but we will not be surprised if it goes out tonight.
@cobrat as with anything else, there are no free rides. The minimum school year is a certain number of days. If you have a snow day around here…you make that day up…in June.
But back to this storm…unless it really perks up here…we have a dusting…and that’s it.
In NoVa inside the beltway we are around 20". DH has run the snow blower 3 times already. Will do one more tonight and the final tomorrow. It’s still coming down hard and blowing.
@VeryHappy “And I watched the movie Brooklyn. Excellent. I highly recommend it.”
Did you go out to the theater? I went to IMDB and it doesn’t look like it’s out on DVD or streaming yet. I’d love to see it.
S18 has dug out our driveway and sidewalk three or four times since yesterday. He’s making money from neighbors. For some reason this snow is fluffy and he uses his leaf blower to blow much of it. He owns a lot of his own yard tools since he is a lawn businessman. They don’t sell snow blowers around here or he’d probably have one.
I feel for all of you getting slammed by the storm. I’m outside of Boston, so I’ve seen big storms, but we’ve been totally spared on this one-no more than an inch of snow on the ground.
I hope you’re all treating yourselves well, with a glass of wine and some comfort food (I’m combining them in a big pot of Boeuf Bourguignon) and taking on the shoveling slow and steady.
Still just a dusting here in northern Connecticut. It’s amazing to see what’s going on down on the coast. I mean, this state is only about 50 miles from “top” to “bottom”…
Now they’re saying three feet of snow for NY-NJ metropolitan area. I hope my mother’s stroke rehab center (in Chester NJ) has enough staffing to get through the next couple of days.
Yikes. We now have a coating of snow on the ground. It looks pretty.
Like the above poster, we have had some doozie snowstorms in the northeast. But i do feel for my southern state friends…25 inches of snow in one storm…when that is the yearly average…is really tough.
Justamom is right…this state is pretty small. Amazing that folks an hour away have a foot of snow on the ground, and blizzard conditions…and we have a coating.
